K1300 Replacement - Confirmed!

Yes guys, I replaced my K1300R with a K1300S.
It is like no other bike, no ZX14, FJR1300, Hyabusa, S1000XR, R1200RS, ETC ETC.... will ever be a replacement for the K1300. Compromise maybe..... anyways........

Short back story.... hit some gravel.... bike was written off..... 3 months on crutches..... some dark and emotional time...... some overflowing support, phone calls and PM's from select iBMW family...... and my own family........
Insurance paid up, i put aside $10k for a bike..... here is what I got.
This is really a bit if a farkle thread BTW. As you do......

2010 K1300S
30,300KM
$10,000
Complete service history, Vin number check shows all recalls done.
Tyres are Fckt, some surface rust on some bolts.

or.......... $7386.07 USD with 18,827 Miles.

New set of Angel GT's

Scored a 4 button NAV cradle off ebay for $0.99.

Lloyd doing an inspection.

Carbon Akropovic doesnt fit the Arrow Mid pipe i have.....

went down to the local exhaust shop, and for $10 he made up a sleeve that worked perfectly.....

https://youtu.be/WXjXNvFt_ZQ
https://youtu.be/Y_G4uRff6s4

and some smokey rear indicator lenses... (front ones are on order)

Mat:

Really glad to see you have found a replacement. Looks nice will be interested to read what your thoughts are on the differences between the S and R.

I'm still without a replacement for my K1300S - really thought I would have bought something by now.

Thanks Bruce, i took my first little ride (about 30km) out to my mates place in the Acreage area outside sydney (Arcadia) and back, the bike feels great, and turns in corners just fine, brand new tyres help.
The gearbox feels longer, love the sound of the dual air filters VS the single on the R. Riding position feels fine too. Power is ridiculous as we already know.
I think being off the K1300R for 4 months, I might have forgotten a bit of what the K1300R was like, but i certainly am impressed with this bike, and after my little ride today, its like i have made peace with riding again.

Hi Mat,

This is awesome. Now you can be great again.

Can you please detail the set up you have to mount the NAV. If possible, part numbers, detailed photos would be great. Mine's still sitting on the shelf. I need to install it.

By the way, you need some pussy grips

i havent seen it come up in the Auctions yet, may have missed it, not that interested in getting it, although a few of you guys would be keen on some of the parts, and i would like the headers and LED lights.

Re: K1300 Replacement - Confirmed!

Pretty sure it's the Nav 4. Its what I had on the red K13R, but it was mounted on the battery cover which I don't want to do on this bike. I just need to know what ram bits to buy.

Re: K1300 Replacement - Confirmed!

There is a ram mount that screws right into this hole here.

I'll look and see if I can find the vendor.

Found the post here. The RAM mount for the top yoke is made by MV Verholen or Horning.

I agree. This looks really good. No need for ram balls and extensions. Wonder how it affects vision to the dash and access to the key

Hi Phil,
This looks quite tidy. How does this setup affect you viewing the dash? Also, how is the access to the key?

Have you got any photos you could share?

Cheers

Re: K1300 Replacement - Confirmed!

Don't have any pictures BUT-everything is adjustable. I.E. height, angle of viewing and so on, so no problem with viewing the dash based on YOUR riding position. Takes some fiddling to get it where you want it. Not a problem with the key either although you do have to reach around or over. I could see an issue if you had the key on a ring with a lot of other keys, but I just have the bike key and my front door key on a small BMW Motorsport (from their car accessories) leather fob. It's VERY well made. All CNC jewel like machined and mine is clear anodized so it's silver to match the steering head. RECOMMEND!

EDIT: Here's the instruction PDF-you can see the degree of adjustability:
http://www.bikepenr.nl/res/Documenta...rminnewgen.pdf
Mine mounts a Motorrad Nuvi V with the cradle.

Re: K1300 Replacement - Confirmed!

Only thing else I can say (after looking in my file), is that it IS a bit pricey. $163.80 USD in November of last year. The adage "buy once, cry once" applies!

Thanks Phil,

I can get it for $199 here in Aus. Pricey yes, but when you add up a Verholen screw in ram ball, ram ball to ram ball extension, and then a ram ball with adapter plate for the cradle to screw onto, that's also pricey.

Thanks for you time.

And sorry for hijacking your thread Mat. Back to scheduled viewing

Access to the key sucks, and you loose a BMW symbol, get Wardy to send you a picture of his setup John, you might like it.

this is how mine used to sit

just reach down and turn the key, unless you like the other setup and dont mind the reach-around, with your other advisers like...

Congrats on the new bike!

I'm sure that you'll have a ball! (not the one Mahteen is referring to...)

How did you get a $0.99 cradle?

Glad rehab went good.

Cheers bud
