tinted windshield install

I am trying to install a BMW tinted windshield on my 2013 K1300S.
The mounting holes do not line up for the screws.
I went back to the clear windshield and the holes lined up.
Has anyone else had this problem?
If I disassemble the fairing more, will I be able to get it on?

Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately YES. I was able to more or less push all other screws to their prior positions, but the upper right one (as sitting on the bike) just didn't line up, so now you can see an ugly black 'quarter moon' around it. And my freaking touch-up paint dried up, but doubt it can be touched-up successfully. I'm probably going to leave it alone. I was also wondering what the hell happened. I've never seen OEM fit issues before, but this winscreeen is clearly different than the clear OEM my bike came with, which had a 'lip' all around the screen. This one just has like a 'spoiler' in the middle of it, so clearly different. Oh well. Still need to take a trip to see if it fixed my buffeting/noise issues, but it seemed better on the short ride I took after installing it.

In which screws are you having fit issues? And keep in mind I changed all 4 blind-nuts as well, so it should have fitted perfectly.

Re: tinted windshield install

I may have solved my own problem.
I compared the factory clear screen to the tinted.
The tinted has a point on the forward or bottom edge,
whereas the factory clear has this point ground off using
a grinder or something.
It has a rough edge instead of a molded edge.
This is how it came from the factory,
or maybe the dealer could have done it if they
had to install the windshield as part of the setup.
I haven't ground mine yet,
I thought I would ask around here to see if anyone else
has noticed this.

Re: tinted windshield install

I didn't notice that 'point' because I threw that clear screen away due to previous owner having made 2 holes for a radar-detector mount. But I did notice the rough edges, including the upper one. For almost $300, I was quite disappointed. I had to sand the damn edge on top smoooth, and it was a royal b*tch. But after blistered fingers, it was close to perfect; ultra hard to remove scratches (hope that means it's hard to scratch ). Anyway, the issue with mine was LATERAL fit (a bit shorter than the clear), not vertical, therefore the 'point' wasn't an issue for me.

The OE (factory) clear has a point also. Your point must have been removed by someone.

After three years and eight months, I doubt he is still waiting for an answer. At my age, I'd be lucky to still be alive. I have visions of a cobweb covered body sitting at a computer.

Well, I saw it as I was researching my question, and since no one had ever answered him, I provided an answer. Maybe someone else using "Search" might be looking for the answer.

Actually, I did get the answer myself. See my above entry.
I have since sold the bike and returned to a 2004 K1200GT.

Why?

This is the entry I posted some time back in 2014 or 2015 or something.

The fling or wild affair is over.
You know the story, older guy sees hot young thing and wants her.
The first time I saw a picture, I knew I wanted her.
But not right away. When they are too young, there are too many problems.
So, I waited. She gained some size, up to 1300 and that 'S' at the end
of her name, well, we know what that means.
Then came the red, white and black one. Something about an anniversary.
But some say she wasn't really of the exact lineage. But I didn't care.
I traded old faithful for her.

It was heaven at first. But then, you know,
the older guy just can't handle a young hot one.
We like to think we can, but we can't.
She wanted to do more, go faster, go more times.
And OH, the positions she had me do.
So finally I let her go to a younger guy last fall.

But where does that leave me?
What about 'old faithful'?
She had her faults, but I really liked her.
Where is she?

Even though it's January, it wouldn't hurt to look, would it?
So I looked, and there she was.
Well, not her exactly, but it must have been a younger sister,
by a few months. Even in the same color and used fewer times.
So I called and got the arrangements made.

The Mighty K is back in the garage!
