Can windshield be removed on 2000 R1100RT?

I'm looking at a 2000 R1100RT-ABS but if I buy it I will not be using it for touring. I just do short rides of 50 miles or less. I really dislike looking through a windshield; I don't mind looking over a short windshield. Can the windshield on this bike be removed? If so, will it really look hideously ugly without it?

It should adjust.
You shouldn't be looking through the shield, just over the top.Look for a
shorter one.

It's not hard to cut down the shield.

I could look over the top of my R1100RT either raised or lowered.

you probably have an aftermarket or BMW accessory screen.

Like Lee said, it's not difficult to cut the screen. the hard part is smoothing up the cut edge.

I don't have the bike yet. I am going to see it later this week (if it is still available) and then I can sit on it. I am just looking at pictures at the moment.

I really don't want to do any cutting, and probably won't.

Look like this one? The shield is in the up position.

Sweet looking. My friend had one like it.
Check the lower fairing by the exhaust for scorching. If they're ridden
in traffic they get hot. Might take that into consideration for daily rider.

Re: Can windshield be removed on 2000 R1100RT?

I made a virtual deal to go see (and possibly purchase) the bike on Sunday.

I don't need another BMW . . . but I sure want one!

Re: Can windshield be removed on 2000 R1100RT?

Sorry it took so long to update this thread. I didn't buy the RT. I already have two BMWs -- that's enough for now.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions and tips.
