Pirates Lair K13/K12 Torque Arms - One More Production Run?

Out of the blue, we've gotten an influx of calls lately looking for one of our Pirates Lair K1300S/K1200S / K1300R / K1200R Torque Arms... I usually refer anyone looking to eBay.

I loved the design, but even when we produced them we only sold maybe one or two a month so I discontinued them about 3 years ago..

That being said.. if I can get maybe 7-8 people who want one... I'll produce one last batch... They'll be available in Black or Silver.. with or without our logo.. I'm thinking we could have them by Christmas..

If interested... PM me.. No pressure.

BTW.. FYI.. these are only a cosmetic enhancement. The geometry of the bike remains the same. I designed these for my bike as the oem torque arm is simply the cheapest looking part on the motorcycle and I can't stand ugly... Here's a page with more information and some juicy pictures of the... http://pirateslair.net/TorquePL.htm

Here's a side-by-side comparison to the oem parts

What do you figure the damages will be on this "last" production run? Still $210?

Yes.. and that price includes tax and Priority shipping inside the US.. I spoke to my machinist recently to make sure he still had the CNC plans and he said he'd charge us the same price as 3 years ago with a minimum order..

OK second question. Are the aluminum finish ones clear coat anodized or anything to prevent corrosion? THX

Re: Pirates Lair K13/K12 Torque Arms - One More Production Run?

Honestly.. I don't know, but I have one on my bike and it looks as good as the day I put it on 10 years ago... Maybe once every 4-5 months I'll rub a dab of Semi-chrome polish or Wenol on it just to bring back the new finish.. I have a silver one, BTW.. I'll theorize that with the black ones you'd just Plexus or any other spray wax..

Corrosion would appear to be a non-issue...

We just spoke by phone, but sending you a PM doesn't seem to work?? Put me down for an aluminum finish one without logo if you get enough "takers". Good luck with the hurricane.

I had these on my K12S and my K13S... they add a beautiful detail to the bikes...

$$$$$$$$$$$ Alternative would be to have one anodized in titanium color as are the HP rearsets. This gives you the color and corrosion resistance.

First..Other bikes? this piece fits only the K1200s, K1200S, K1300S and K1200R as well as the K1200R Sport, I think...

and No... I'm making this offer at I-BMW only. I'm not a member of any other BMW forum..As far as I'm concerned.. there are no other BMW forums.. That being said.. if YOU hang out at another forum with Kbike riders.. feel free to mention it to them.

I guess what I was getting at is there are 4 K1200 and 3 K1300 model specific sub-forums here. Wondered if you had populated the new production offer to all of them that the piece fits? FWIW.
And I only read and post here (K1300S), so can't be much help in that regard.

Oh.. I see what you were getting at... No.. I posted it in the one spot which put the post on the main page that EVERYONE sees when they log on... Dropping it on every sub-forum would be over-kill and redundant..

I'm a no sticker, no decal and no name on my vehicles, including license plate frames, kind of guy.

My black torque arm on the Mighty K1300S has the engraved "Pirate" and I dig it. It's holding up well with no corrosion or surface erosion. Total quality, don't pass this one up[!

Thanks Jerry.

Re: Pirates Lair K13/K12 Torque Arms - One More Production Run?

I have good news and bad news... The good news is, it looks like we're gonna have enough people to place one last order.. The bad news is.. I contacted the guy that makes these for us last night and he now says he checked and the price of material and anodizing has gone up a bit. Basically adding $20ea to the cost. Considering I was only gonna make $22ea off this deal all in..... I'm gonna have to pass some of that cost on.

As of today the deal has changed... The cost of the bars is still the same.. $210US... but I'm gonna have to ask that anyone still in pays their own shipping. That way I'll break even more or less after I figure in the stainless steel custom bolts that I'll be furnishing with them making this deal a mostly humanitarian gesture..

I'm figuring shipping will be around $15 or so for Priority US Mail putting the final cost at $225ea delivered..

I'll be contacting everyone on my list to see if they are still in or out. Sorry about the price fluctuation. Twas out of my control..

No... PM me with your name and email address and I'll put you on the "Mongo Want" list... as soon as I get enough names I'll contact you for a "confirmed commitment" then place the order with the machinist... He said he couldn't even produce them until November so we're looking at a Christmas delivery date give or take.

Once they are complete and in my hands I'll contact you for payment. I do NOT want to take anyone's money without providing an EXACT delivery date.

I expect we'll have enough people by this weekend...

Re: Pirates Lair K13/K12 Torque Arms - One More Production Run?

9/28: OK gentlemen...As of today I have enough names for a minimum order. I am NOT taking any more names. I am NOT asking for payment yet.

Order has been placed with my machinist. He says he's penciled us in for mid-November so we should see these before Christmas...

When the arms are close to being finished I'll contact those of you who have already confirmed.. I will NOT contact those who were just inquiring.. or those who were thinking about it but forgot to get back with me because they were so preoccupied with the Kavenaugh confirmation hearings.. or those who emailed me 6 months ago wanting one but never answered my multiple emails asking if you wanted in on this offer because you've been on a diving vacation.. The ship has sailed. Savvy?

thanks everybody... I will be in touch when I have imminent news..

BTW.. In post # 28 I mentioned I was supplying bolts with the arms.. I should have said.. I'm supplying bolts for the SILVER arms.. I don't have access to black bolts and the silver bolts we do have access to look kinda bad on a black arm.. In reality.. the oem black bolts look just fine with the black arms..

dynajohn-look up his phone number on his website and call him. Pirate's a nice guy and if he doesn't answer will call back in my experience. I've also had trouble with PMs through this site before for some reason. FWIW.

11/28: Just a heads up for those inquiring.... Just got this from our machinist...

Hi Jerry.
They are running now.
If everything goes well, the machining should be done by the end of this week.
Then its off to the anodizer. I imagine 3 days for that process depending on how busy they are.
I'm estimating middle or end of next week.

Honestly.. I don't know, but.. I've had one of these on my bike for at least 10 years and it still looks brand new.. I use Semi-chrome polish on it maybe twice a year just to shine it up a bit.. That's more out of obsession rather than need..

Re: Pirates Lair K13/K12 Torque Arms - One More Production Run?

12/4: OK boyz and gurlz.. It's time.. My machinist said he should have them in my hands in about a week or so ... It's time to pay the piper.. Again.. the cost to your door inside the USA is $225.

I'm going to take care of the 9 people on my confirmed list first (see below) and then go to my "alternate" list once I see how many arms I have left over...

I'll accept 2 methods of payment..
1. Check or MO..
2. If you'd rather pay instantly rather than mail a check I will accept a Paypal payment via their "Friends & Family" option. Via that option Paypal doesn't take their cut off the payment. Just log into paypal, click on send money, and you'll see that option

If you pay by check or money order you can make it out to either Jerry Finley or Pirates Lair and mail to:

Pirates Lair
1279 Charlotte Hwy
Fairview, NC 28730

These are the people on my confirmed list. FYI.. I'll try to contact each one of the following people individually in case you don't check in to I-BMW often...

1. M Knox
2. C. Cannin
3. W Voglesang
4. P Bashaw
5. M. McCloud
6. T Tomaszeki
7. P. Saitta
8. V. Mohan
9. A. Armstrong

If anyone has any questions.. please let me know. If anyone wants out of the deal.. don't sweat it.. I have a handful of back-ups wanting one...
