The Red Eagle has landed

After test riding the 1000XR twice and spending 8 hours on the bike this past weekend, I got my red beauty today. What a bike. She now has 55 km on the clock and will get some serious kms done this weekend to run it in.

I am keeping the GSA LC for a touring and offroad bike and will sell the 690 as I don't use it much.

Had a ball this weekend on the demo bike and can share the Nav 5 between the bikes.

I saw the 2016 colour with grey stickers and tank today. Like the white, it did nothing for me. The lady with the red dress is picked. Will post some pictures of the coming weekends ride.

I am in love!

Congrats but a pity you picked the slower colour!

Re: The Red Eagle has landed

I was originally wary that the XR would be too close to the GS. After 800 km total and a 8 hour ride on Sunday (550 km), I can report that these bikes are as far apart as chalk and cheese. The GSA is smooth, has a soft suspension, is a fantastic long range touring bike, can do offroad and mine with 26 000km on the clock is now loose and a fantastic quick ride. The seat gets me on the tailbone which I have cured with a Airhawk and the Puig screen makes it dead quiet.

The XR on the other hand is just a screaming eagle. It is busy, the whole thing vibrates more that a GS, it is mind blowing above 6000 rpm, it cuts through the corners far better than a GS. The seat have whole day comfort for me but the wind protection is far short of a GS on the standard screen. This bike is loud. The intake sound is intoxicating but I needed earplugs. With my earplugs, I can listen to my music and the ride is just so much more comfortable.

Both my bikes have shift assist systems, but the one on the XR works both ways and the GS just up. The lights on the XR and the levers could be much better quality. Here the GS wins hands down.

When I want to race around with my buddies, I will take the XR- even for long trips. When I go whole day touring I will take the GSA. It is just such a more comfortable ride. I am glad I kept the GS now and have filled the hooligan in me with the XR. They are far apart and not the same bikes. One should keep both. I am selling the 690 because I can ride the GSA anywhere the 690 can go.

Re: The Red Eagle has landed

Another 400 km on the bike this weekend after the 1000 km service and chip now in upping the HP from 79 to 112.

What an incredible bike and ride. I have to ride with earplugs with my system 6 helmet but saving that the bike is just perfect for me and really having unlimited power to cruise the whole day long. I no longer see need for a K1300S. This bike is just so much more for me.

It really is an Adventure sports bike. Yesterday I first had to drive down a 45 degree grass embankment to get out of a parking and later on the highway had to skip over a dug out part of a slab rebuild at speed to pass a almost standing truck. It did both challenges without any problems.

The suspension at is softest setting is harder than the GS at it hardest setting. I am happy I kept the GS. It is the Rolls Royce of bikes. You have to ride another bike to see how good the GS is as a long distance and offroad tourer. The XR harder suspension makes the bike stick around corners and makes it feel planted at high speed. What a great combination to have.

My fuel consumption varied from 5,2 l per 100 km at 120 km/h to 6,2 at significantly higher speed. I changed the great 5,2 to 6,2 by the time I got home yesterday afternoon. I could not be be more pleased with the XR. It now has 1400 km on the clock and I am sure that engine with still get more loose!

I think you'll find that the power is and has always been 118KW/160hp. The Dynamic Pro plug in doesn't increase HP - it just alters throttle response and a few other things. Rain mode is the only mode where HP is scaled back.

Glad you like your bike. I like mine a lot.

Re: The Red Eagle has landed

Hein,

Appreciate your two posts comparing the GSA LC with the XR. (for awhile, haven't been able to get the XR out of my thinking - it's all about that robust 4 cylinder performance - a stretch, but reminds me a little of my former red K3GT).

With me it would be one or the other - currently on a GSA LC. Think your comparison has pushed me more toward keeping the GSA - the more comfy, smooth aspect, I guess.

None-the-less want to congratulate you on the new XR - a rocket, indeed!

Miles

Re: The Red Eagle has landed

Thanks for pointing that our Welshman! It has all the power I need.

And Miles, if I could only have one bike it will be the GSA LC. It really is in a class of its own and a much more comfortable ride.

Congratulations

Fortunate(and smart) to keep the GSA. Sometimes I want to get busy, and when I do it's my Bebe. When I want to just put about it's the lazy cadence of Prudence

Hein,

Your comment here says a lot - especially since it can be only one bike for me. The XR is a sort of "flight-of-fancy" for me - all that prodigious power in a tall chassis with an upright riding positions - almost too much to resist, but the GSA LC has its own well known set of attributes - and, in many of its design aspects, the XR gives a nod to what the GSA LC has come to mean over the years of continual development to where it is now.

Thanks, again -

Miles
