Occasional cylinder drop?

My 2015 MS will very occasionally feel like it drops a cylinder. Down on power and sputtery performance. It will last for about 30 seconds then back to normal and won't do it again for months. Has done it 5 or 6 times over the past year, but seems to be getting more frequent. No fault codes. Dealer couldn't reproduce so they did nothing.

When it happens, the bike will still accelerate, albeit with vibration and anemic acceleration...then for no apparent reason, perfection. Smooth as glass and tons of power. My guess would be a failing coil pack or ???

Bike goes off warranty in May of 2018, so I have some time and will likely buy an extended warranty. Thoughts?

Re: Occasional cylinder drop?

I was having the same issue with my bike and it turned out to be a fouled spark plug and a clogged injector on cylinder #1.

New plug and fuel system cleansing (at dealer) cured the issue in my case.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I'd bet it's a coil. Does the inside of the can glow red hot?

Re: Occasional cylinder drop?

"clogged injector"
The bikes do not have a fuel filter but a sock with about 30 micron abilities. Nasty. Don't buy dirty fuel from a junk gas station. Maintenance might include pulling your injectors at some point (50,000 miles??) and sending them to a pro injector shop for cleaning. They also replace the inlet filter to the injector.

Re: Occasional cylinder drop?

I run Techron Fuel System Cleaner through my Fuel Injected Vehicles twice a year (we don't have Chevron Gas Stations here). Fuel Injector Spray pattern, very important, can be marginalized by a gummed up injector.
