Service light

Does the service idiot light come on at 6,000 miles from the last time it was cleared? Or is it suppose to come on at 6,000 mile intervals regardless of the last time it was cleared.
Reason my asking is: in spring I had it cleared at 6,500 from dealer when they changed out my potentiometer, and now I have 12,100 but no Service idiot light headed to Nashville and blue ridge in 2 1/2 weeks so I'm bringing it in to the dealer to reset it anyways, I do all my own service, I just need them to reset and check to make sure no codes are in computer while its still under warranty. I dont want to look at the idiot light for the whole trip in case it decides to come on just as I leave
Im hoping santa will bring me the GS911 this Christmas, so I can just do it myself and save the $75.00 bucks

Re: Service light

Get an OBD reader and motoscan app. Works great.

I had the shop do our 600 mile services and they set the next service 6,200 miles beyond whatever the mileage was when they did the runing-in service.

On my RS if I cycle through the info displays, one item is the miles to the next service.

I can't remember if my K1300S had this feature.

Re: Service light

I use the Motoscan app and an OBDII BlueTooth reader. You don't "clear" the reminder as such, but set it to come on after however many miles/km you choose. This is usually 10000km (6000miles) since that's the service interval, but you can pick any value you like within reason.

Re: Service light

Thanks guys,
Yes I asked the dealer this morning, its really pretty generic as to when the light comes on. They can set it to come on 4 miles down the road it they want. I wasn't sure if it was hard programmed into the computer every 6,000 or not, but from what I understand now, can be set at any intervals. I realize its just an idiot light, but I was just curious.

I knew the GS911 could set the reminder to any mileage you want, but I figured the shop computer was set to 10,000 Km or 6,214 miles.

Actually the Gs911 has a limit on the next service. I think my red unit has a limit somewhere between 18,000 and 20,000 miles.

Re: Service light

Lee,
I talked to the mechanic and like I said, he can set it at any intervals. He was joking with me he would set it to go off just as I got home

I've an OBD reader and the motoscan app and I can't do anything about the service light or anything else. Any chance you could explain what I'm meant to be doing?

Thanks.

Re: Service light

This is in Spanish and for a GS, but you'll get the idea even if you can't speak Spanish.

Note that the OBDC dongle has to be a decent one - many of the cheap ELM373 knock-offs

don't work very well.

Re: Service light

Seems like a stupid question but where is the OBDII plug on my 2015 K1300s. Nothing in my owners manual I can find. The only likely plug is under the seat tucked up under a frame cross member on the left side but this plug is a 3 wire and already plugged in.

Is it better to just buy a GS911 or a OBD reader & the motoscan app. If it is the latter who sells a good one and is the motoscan app included?

It's under the rear seat.
It has a twist off cap.
