Sita Benson - RIP

Those of you who have known me going back more than a decade or so may have known Sita, my first wife. We were married for 30 years and produced a wonderful and lovely daughter, Laura. I’m sad to say Sita passed away May 29, in South Florida, at the age of 73. She had been in a nursing home for quite some time as a result of a series of strokes.

A memorial service is being held at Faith Presbyterian in Pembroke Pines, FL this Saturday, June 23rd, at noon. Karen and I will be there, and all are welcome to attend.

Re: Sita Benson - RIP

My condolences to you bud.

I first had met Sita (and you too, as a matter of fact) back in 03 when Tallahassee Pete and I went on the one and only I-bmw New Year's eve rally. We stayed at your house for a night or two (it's still fuzzy...) before heading down to the Keys to Island Tony's with Vics in tow and then North to Tampa (somebody there was on I-bmw...) for the New Year's eve party and not much sleep...

Anyhow, I digress...

RIP Sita

Re: Sita Benson - RIP

We had the Memorial Service for Sita on Saturday in Pembroke Pines, FL. Her ashes were then interred next to her mother and father at a cemetery in Ft. Lauderdale. Thanks to everyone for the condolences and kind wishes.

The second image is a collage Sita kept in her room to remember better times.

I also wanted to share this photo.

Sita was the oldest sibling, on the right. Her parents were Frank and Pearl. Sabita is the younger sister. Her brother Sidat is on the left and her brother SriRam is on the right. They had immigrated from Trinidad, and for some reason SriRam had to stay behind for an extended period. The photo he's holding is of a congressman who helped reunite the family, for whom they were eternally grateful.

Interesting question.

I was welcomed. As a data point, all 4 siblings* married "non-Indians". And all got divorced eventually and none are currently married.

The pushback I got was from my dad. Though East Indians are caucasian, Sita was a bit dark for his tastes. Enough so that he threatened to disown me if we got married. That clearly didn't work and once it was a fait accompli he welcomed Sita into the family and loved our daughter Laura deeply. Who I think is a lovely shade of brown.

*There are now only 2 left. Her brother, Sidat, passed away one week ago. I'll be headed to CT for his memorial service scheduled for a week from Saturday.
