Thai soccer team rescue

How about the rescue of those 8 kids (so far) from the cave system? I'm not a cave diver so I cannot discuss the level of difficulty, but I have been in some tricky situations while diving. I'm totally amazed by the ability of the rescue team to get the kids out.

I'd like to hear Clay's thought's on it since he is an experienced caver.

Pretty amazing rescue and I'm also a long time diver though no cave time. I have been in quarries, but definitely not the same thing. It's hard enough when you have perfect visibility, but I can't imagine how difficult it is in what must be zero visibility. Maybe good for the kids not being able to see...… you don't know what you don't know! Hopefully they get the remaining five out tomorrow.

Re: Thai soccer team rescue

Pretty amazing & hopefully everyone will get out safely. I've read some of these kids don't know how to swim either! To say it's risky cave diving is an understatement... very risky & dangerous especially on a rescue mission. Navigating through all that has got to be nerve racking not to mention what if one of those kids panics? Crazy...

Re: Thai soccer team rescue

Fortunately, kids won't panic as easily as an adult! And yes, this is a tough mission given the environment. There are no alternatives then to swim them out....8 down, a few more to go....I have a feeling this is going to be a success story.....except for.....

My heart goes out to the rescuer and his family that lost his life trying to save others! There are no greater heros in life then ones who puts their life on the line to save another

Good news!

What do you guys think about whether the coach should face any repercussions, legal or otherwise?

It’s called ‘penitration diving’ one has to take tanks off (either side mounted or back mounted) and push the tank(s) through the restriction...

FYI..there are few safety errors in this YouTube video

Problem is that if he doesn't, this will continue. Thailand is lax in everything. Might be time to enter the 19th century and become a nation of laws (not oppressive military only ones)

Sri Joe...don’t like offering opinions concerning a subject that goes against the grain of how we are are trained... Untrained divers and complacency are the major reasons why people die in caves...

Understood. Just thinking about this whole rescue operation gave me the heebie-jeebies. I was reading somewhere that the kids had been given a tranquilizer to help with their nerves!

The full story will come out eventually and we will get a better picture of what happened. Thankfully they all made it out alive.

From the article.

“The probability of success was about as low as you can get,” US Mission Commander Major Charles Hodges said. “I was fully expecting that we would accept casualties. Maybe three, four, possibly five would die.”
