SPOILER - Austin USGP

Wells its on. Can Marquez stay out of trouble and win for the 6th time in a row? Track is dusty from repairs to the surface.

Here are the results from FP1, looking forward to the race, hoping the MM doesn't run away and hide like he has in the past, it would be nice to see a close race for the win.

Re: SPOILER - Austin USGP

Overshadowed by the drama was the fact that Yamaha is up shit creek in the first two races.

Rossi won't have to worry about MM if he never sees him during the race. Just like the MM vs Vinales supermatch that never materialized.

Yamaha needs to figure out why they have been going backwards or sideways in development since 2015 when Lorenzo and Rossi had the superior bike.

I wonder if it boils down to the fact that the chassis they built depends on a trick electronics package, and without that package, they just can't compete? (just don't tell Zarco that I guess.)

Re: SPOILER - Austin USGP

It Finally Happened. Somebody Faster Than Marquez At CoTA MotoGP

FP 2 in the books, and MM topples, and is toppled off the top of the time sheets,

2018 Austin MotoGP - Free Practice (2) Results

Iannone snatches the fastest lap time on Friday at the Austin MotoGP, the Suzuki star toppling the dominant Marquez at the very end of FP2.

However Iannone, like most riders, was using the soft rear tyre while Marquez - who suffered a small lowside fall mid-session - stuck with the hard rear...

As expected, lap times dropped significantly in FP2, with Zarco the most high-profile rider outside the top ten. The Frenchman will need to hope tomorrow's rain forecast is wrong, because only the top 10 automatically go through to Qualifying Session 2.

Pedrosa put on a brave performance, claiming tenth despite pain from a wrist fracture sustained last time in Argentina.

All riders set their best lap times of the day in FP2.

Track surface modifications have been made to try and reduce the COTA bumps, from turns 1-9 and 16-19, but many riders felt the bumps were as bad as ever - and the work has left a lot of dust on the track.

Re: SPOILER - Austin USGP

I know MM has had unbelievable results in Austin and he is the favorite to win again - but I have a feeling a few of these riders might have enough gas this weekend to change that.

Re: SPOILER - Austin USGP

What I fear is that the rocketship MM was riding in Argentina shows up again. 1 sec faster per lap is just insane. There will be no competition.

He could be just sandbagging it in practice.

Re: SPOILER - Austin USGP

MM's qualifying lap last year was 2:02.741, nearly two seconds faster than they've managed this year, so far.

To put that in perspective, Lewis Hamilton's F1 lap record was a 1:33 and change.

I still think MotoGP is way more interesting to watch.

Fp3 and fp4 are done.
Fp4 results are encouraging (I've read this is closest to race pace) .
MM, vinales and rossi! Could be exciting for the race!

Let's see how qualifying works out...

Re: SPOILER - Austin USGP

Well an interesting qualifying, MM fastest, crashed, got a scooter ride back to the pits, got on his back up bike and no surprise, still fastestbut penalized for getting in Vinales' way during qualifying so he'll be starting on the second row, here are the times for the top 12 before MM's penalty, which cost him 3 spots, starting in the 4th spot on the second row, elevating Vinales to pole, and Zarco to the front row. A bit on penalty under the times,

Marc Marquez On Pole At Austin MotoGP. But For How Long?
Results of final qualifying at CoTA
Saturday, April 21, 2018
Final qualifying at CoTA MotoGP was nearly the standard that we have begun to expect from Marc Marquez. He was a half second-faster than anyone, then crashed in a long effort to save it, got a ride back to the garage and went out on his spare bike, Then, he cruised on the racing line and became a rolling roadblock for Maverick Vinales, ruining a fast lap for MV25. Maverick was very angry about this and moments later race direction said that the incident is “under investigation”.

Iannone made a fast lap to snare the last spot on the front row. Zarco, Rossi and Lorenzo were all very fast until the last lap when they, along with Crutchlow, were bounced off the front row.

Marquez’s crash/save/crash alone was worth the price of admission.

Marc Marquez has lost his pole position start for the Austin MotoGP after being handed a three-place grid penalty.

The Repsol Honda star was punished for riding slowly on the racing line during qualifying and will now drop to fourth on the grid.

Rear of the grid, pit lane, won't make much difference.

And he'll probably lead by the end of the first lap if not turn 1.

Re: SPOILER - Austin USGP

In his post qualy interview he looked obviously annoyed by his mistake and the line of questioning and initially blew right past the question about obstructing Maverick.

But he did admit fault and had time to stick in a jab saying essentially his pole time wasn't his best lap.

The field is f*cked.

Yes MM has the measure of the field, however he is starting next to Rossi, I wonder if there is going to be some payback?

Yup, that was a boring race, MM really has the measure of the field. An amazing talent, yet IMO having one rider so dominant really somehow diminishes the competition.

Everyone is waiting to get back to Europe and back on tracks that have traditionally not been "Honda" tracks. But this year, Honda/MM is on a different level and it might not make a difference.
It was a test/trackday for him today. I wonder if we are seeing the beginning of the pinnacle of MM's dominance in MotoGP?

10 Wins in a row for MM in the US. He is probably one of the all time greatest riders at 24.

I have stopped watching car F1 as it is always super boring. And now that they have banned girls they can go to H. Bunch of idiots managing it.

Re: SPOILER - Austin USGP

Read an article in the press this week saying that MotoGP could well be on the way out of the US again after the way COTA dealt with the track surface

I hope that's not the case, but I certainly had misgivings after hearing all the negative feedback from riders...

You could definitely see the bikes bouncing around on the track surface, although it didn't seem to hamper MM much, I'm not a fan of his, but he is some sort of talent. Hopefully COTA will sort out the track conditions.

Tracks atrocious, but skills in the bumpy parts go a long way. Cut up caution course to me.
