GT Parts Availability

I came across a 2007-2008 GT that has low miles. All the recalls have been done and I feel the bike is pretty solid. I was wondering if I should be concerned about buying a bike that is almost 10 years old if I ever need parts.

Does anyone know how long BMW will continue to make parts after a model goes out of production? I don't want to get a bike and have something break only to find out I can't get parts to fix it.

Also...how much does a valve job run at the dealer & is it something I can tackle myself? I'm pretty handy with tools and not at all intimidated by getting my hands dirty.

Thanks for any insight you can give me.

Re: GT Parts Availability

Parts will not be a problem but dealers do not keep a lot of parts on hand. In most cases it doesn't take long to receive the parts when they order.
A couple years ago on my K1300S, which is a very similar engine to the K1200GT, I had the valves checked, plugs changes and coolant changed. It cost around $400.
It will cost more for a valve adjustment, plus the GT will cost more because of more body panels to remove.
The radiators need to be removed for a valve check and you need some type of vacuum tool when refilling the coolant.

Re: GT Parts Availability

Hi Bill

Personally I think BMW have available parts like no other brand.

as example if you look the parts catalog of ascycles you can see they offers parts of models starting 1970

"A&S BMW Motorcycles Parts Fiche is the ultimate, easy-to-use, online BMW OEM Parts Catalog for looking up and ordering BMW OEM parts and accessories for your BMW motorcycle - 1970 to current".

Also there are an important availability of aftermarket parts and accessories
