Cool 99 Hk12 RS ABS 2 odd issue

brembo abs2 - should i have rear brake pressure from ft brake lever when key off ?
rear brake works with pedal - but not with ft brake lever.
or how could the ABS work ?
no leaks - is abs unit blocked somehow ? ill try a re bleed (entire sys) ft & rear - but i dont get it.
its NOT the sys that abs3 that pump comes on w/ handle pressure (02 & newer) BMW type

Re: 99 Hk12 RS ABS 2 odd issue

Have you tried it with the key on or motor running on center stand?

Re: 99 Hk12 RS ABS 2 odd issue

no key on or running OR OVER 5 MPH TO TRIP TEST.
im thinking abs needs to pass thur test (5mph) then maybe a valve opens to link hydraulics.
??? do u know the internals of the ABS unit ? - so id think if ABS (fault) triggered flashing lamps - that bike would go to std ft & separate rears ? like a non abs bike ? NOT LINKED ?
I GUESS ILL HAVE TO RIDE IT - KEEP RUNNING - THEN CENTER STAND & CK ?
was hoping someone might know - thanks for reply

Re: 99 Hk12 RS ABS 2 odd issue

I read on another forum where someone had to do the same, ride it to set the ABS then put up on the center stand while running to check things out. I think you will find that the rear wheel will brake then.

Re: 99 Hk12 RS ABS 2 odd issue

NO
Even my 2000 does not have linked brakes. Each wheel has a sensor and they work independently. I have initiated the front ABS both on wet surfaces as well as dry track surfaces. Rear in many different conditions - gravel, grass, etc - but I don't remember ever getting enough pressure on dry pavement to get the rear to engage the ABS....just not enough brake there? Front lever has NO effect on the rear, there is no plumbing to accomplish that. It was 2001 Euro/Can and 2002 that the linked stuff appeared on the KRS as I recall. Sailor knows more specifics. But, don't look for a 1999 to engage the rear brake with the front lever or vice- versa....
When the system faults, it defaults to No ABS, but standard braking with standard lever pressures, just no interruption/release from the pressure relief module. I rode mine quite some time with the ABS 'broken' before I could get a used unit and have it installed.
As I recall, the rear pads on the linked systems surprised people by how fast they wore out....I am still on my second set and don't see installing the third set of rear pads for quite some time.....When do you use it? Two up, on the track, loose surface conditions, etc. Just not enough use to wear them out, and still, not much effect anyway....
