Newbie - K/RS with kinks

A Ď99 K1200RS is my new ride and itís got a few kinks to sort out. Iím popping over here to see what sort of answers are in the community and maybe post some of my own questions related to the repair (flashing ABS lights mainly) and maintenance of the ride. This is my first bike and Iíd like to wrench on it, learn the ins and outs of how these things work from some folks who are probably more mechanically minded than I am. See you all in the threads!

Welcome and the search tab is your friend. If you can't find a K bike answer here then you won't find it anywhere.

Welcome to the site, and congrats on getting your bike. As to the blinking ABS light, repairing the ABS unit if it has failed is not for everyone, but as your bike is prior to the dreaded Servo iABS from 2002 onward, you can acquire a rebuilt unit from www.modulemasters.com.

Depends how they're flashing. There are two distinct sequences. Mine flash if battery charge is less than perfect. If I stop and restart after a few miles, they go straight out once bike rolls.

The other sequence of flashing can mean faulty ABS unit - many British owners have by-passed and removed the ABS unit in this instance.

ABS lights are alternating, about half a second apart. They start the moment key is turned and continue throughout entire ride. Brake lines and battery replaced early this summer. Possible that a code just needs to be cleared? Braking has been strong over my first 100 fair-weather miles.

Iíll check the battery in the meantime, so thanks for that tip.

Thanks CJS350 for the module masters reference. Thankful itís proven to be a successful alternative to replacing the unit.

Two other thoughts, check the ABS sensors on the brake rotors, they may be dirty, or the spacing may be off, check with a feeler gauge., check the wires to the abs sensors, and check the brake fluid levels in the reservoirs.

Also, do you have the Clymer manual? If not you should.

Re: Newbie - K/RS with kinks

Clymer manual is on the list of things to buy. Thanks again for chiming in with the additional ideas. Good way to learn my way around the bike. Any ideas on where I might find an owners manual? Ď99 K1200RS. Thanks again for the help.
