There was a little old lady in the middle of the two lanes as I slowed and squeeked by her on the left shoulder. I was going well over 100 MPH in a 55 MPH limit. When I slowed down there was the LEO in my rear view mirror. He gave me a ticket for a lower speed but said that he had never seen a car going that fast on a public highway.

Later that same year I was driving my fathers Chrysler Imperial two door hard top with a hugh V-8. Again I was doing well over 100 MPH. In fact I had so many tickets that I was affraid of loosing my liscense. So....when I was being pulled over my friend slid into the drivers seat to take the ticket.

I guess that I learned a lesson. Or...maybe not. Get a radar detector, go 10MPH over except when out of populated areas, use judgment as to where to go insane speeds. Besides, anyone can speed on the straight away, its the corners that are the most fun to speed. My definition of a Sport Touring Rider: Ride long distance, Ride Fast as Hell, No Tickets, No Crashes.

Oh, all 8 of us got written up for some different arbitrary speed. Re: Highest mph/kph over the limit resulting in a ticket

I got pulled in Belgium doing 240 in a 110 zone, but they couldn't figure out how to ticket me.

- German rental car
- UK Passport
- Australian Driving License

40 minutes on the radio before they gave up and sent me on my way

It was around 2am just over the Belgian/German border...and I wouldn't have put it past them to have covered the border crossing signs so many drivers thought they were still on the autobahn....they had motorcycle cops pulling speeding cars into the first service area which had several car transporters waiting there for cars that were being impounded...and lots of them were being loaded up that night.

Re: Highest mph/kph over the limit resulting in a ticket

In 40 years of riding I have never got a ticket on a motorcycle for anything. I got caught once for doing 85 in a 35 on my 99 K1100RS and got a warning. T he cops had to pull me over because it was them who I passed at 85! Im sure if I was on a "loud pipes save lives" bike and looking somewhat less that the civilized rider i portray and being the silver tongued devil that I am, they would have hauled my ass off to jail. In NH double the speed limit is a no questions asked walk to the pokey

Re: Highest mph/kph over the limit resulting in a ticket

HAHAHA! I forgot to POST this one...

Last summer, I was LATE for work (the usual 10 minutes) I was heading up North fom my house... It really looked like 80 or 100 kilometers per hour - 4 lane divided highway out in the middle of a field, no driveways or streets entering the traffic stream. I was pinning it pretty nice over the top of the hill when I saw the RADAR up ahead.
There was a cop car and bike parked, the bike cop was working the RADAR on a tripod, the other cop was walking out into the roadway waving, I was just shifting into 5th or 6th gear.

The interview went like this:

Cop: You are going pretty quick today
Me: Yes Sir, late for a computer emergency right here at the next street, I am the subject matter expert and there are a bunch of techs waiting for me (My phone rings in my pocket)
Cop: You know we should be confiscating your bike under the street racing rules?
Me: Yes I guess you should be - how fast did you see me going?
Cop: This is a 50k/hr zone (Whoa Crap!) and we saw 147k/hr (I figured that was low)
... Let me see what I can do.
Me: I appreciate that...
Cop: I don't want to spend My Saturday Night with you -> I have a dinner date.
(Cop leaves and comes back after running my paperwork and writing a ticket...)
Cop: Here you go - 20k/hr over the limit - I hope you get your problem solved - take it easy and have a good one!
Me: Thank you so much -> that could have been pretty nasty!
Cop: It costs around $10k these days and your bike is gone for a week.
Me: Yikes! (Checking underwear...)

Oops! I knew I was speeding -> NOT SPEEDING! That road looked nothing like a 50k/hr zone, it was a bad setup and of course, the cops were at the bottom of the hill. I have not checked to see if it was posted as 50k/hr or whether there are no signs which means it defaults to 50k/hr.

Another case of being on a nice looking BMW - being nice to the cop, keeps riding.
I have 6 points on my licence now so, I have to be very careful for the next two years.

Take Care Out There!

Clive

Just yesterday!!! By a game warden- he said "do you know what it feels like to be in pursuit at 95mph and it feels like your going in reverse", anyway I was very lucky, he couldn't clock me but my pace was faster than his. He said "today is your lucky day or your unlucky day however you choose to look at it, I'm going to cite you for 10 over, or you could get a negligent driving," I was happy with the 10 over!!

In my 40 years on 2 wheels and 250,000 + miles I have never received a ticket for speeding on a bike. This despite being stopped for doing 85 in a 35 while passing the cop car that eventually stopped me. I should add that I have been a salesman for 30 of those 40 years..

Re: Highest mph/kph over the limit resulting in a ticket

A very lucky chap writes:

Just got my clutch replaced. Seeing as how the quotes went up £1350, was very happy to get it done for £451 all in. You can feel the improvement.

However, that's not all.

Came back along the road where I test rode the KS at 150 and eventually ended up with mine as a result.

Lovely sunny day.

Howling 130 through a tunnel in 5th - that's a record.

Generally hooned it down the dual carriageway. Bloke in my way, so passed on the inside at about 90. Nice right hand bend, took it up to 125, and off I went. 15 seconds later, 58 plate X5 gave chase with the added advantage of having a full set of flashing blue and red lights hidden under the grill.

Looked like CID, all jeans and body warmers. Only one gets out, leaving 2 in there. Noticed they didn't turn the engine off. Usual drill, do you know why....too fast.....anything else....overtaking on the inside, very sorry, very stupid....yes indeed.....licence please.....5 mins of shi77ing myself.....safety lecture and advice re the fragility of my clean licence......don't do it again.....and off they went.

Phew!

Re: Highest mph/kph over the limit resulting in a ticket

One night going from San Francisco to the Sunol Temple bar east of Milpitas down Calvareras Road about 0030 hrs we had an adventure. Paughco, some friends and I left SF to go get a beer. The ride was only an hr and a half away to the Temple bar in the middle of no where. Headed south on 101 out of SF we were cooking. We were dead ass drunk on our Harleys. This was in the very early 70's when a Harley was "fast". Crossing the San Mateo bridge things took a turn. The boys were moving about 80, fairly fast for Harleys of the time, this is a long flat straight bridge leading to trouble on harleys that like this stuff. I was in the back and my choke vibrated closed. I went into a nose dive power wise. Quickly figuring it out ( I know, amazing while drunk) and pulling the lever back to open I opened her up to catch up, the were a half mile plus ahead. Harleys need to be close of course. I figure I was going about 110 in my drunken stupor when I came up on the back bike. I was closing fast and went for the outside rather than hit the guy. I clipped his right grip with my left grip and lever. Broke the three outside fingers on the left hand and my lever. Too drunk to realize the damage just holding on, I bounced into the right curb, I remember the sparks, this pushed me back in front of the guy I hit and into the oncoming lanes of traffic on the other side. I moved back to my side and saw I had about an inch of clutch lever for my second finger to work the rest of the night. On we went to the wonderful Sunol Temple bar for a few beers until they closed and tossed us drunk jerks out. (there is another story where ten of us drank them out of beer one Sunday, or looking back on it, so they say) I do not remember getting home that night, at least a 2 hr ride through serious metro areas. My fingers were a wreck but we shure had a good time and deserved any ticked we did not get. I think it was a work night too. So the ones I get now I just say, I deserve this. I use to hold my breath in the work elevator plenty of days when the boss got on. I stripped that harley down to less than 400 lbs and with that mighty 80 hp I figure I had going with all my mods it was a great machine for the day and times. I got so many tickets on that bike that the Governor of California sent me a personal letter saying any more points and I was done driving. The CHP use to pull up and do the lane change loop around me looking for something to cause trouble with. Really like many of my friends who rode then. So I bought a 1971 R750/5 and it all went down hill from there. No more tickets and my buddies called it a singer sewing machine. It would not even do two up through Livermore canyon at 80 like my old friend. Last ticket on my K bike was 51 in a 30, relatively chicken shit as far as that goes. Just getting old I guess. Your story brings back so many memories. Now I never had the honor of the Governor sending me a personal letter though -just awesome.

Re: Highest mph/kph over the limit resulting in a ticket

Does getting pulled over and not getting a ticket count? I got pulled a couple of weeks ago right after I was going 120 in a 45. A helicopter saw me, and the best they could say was I was going 'substantially over the speed limit'. He radioed to a patrol car a mile in front of me, and they waited on the side of the road for me to catch up. By that time I was going the speed limit again.

I was last stopped for north of 140 in a 55. Talked him down to a ticket of 64/55 and later did traffic school for 2 hours to get it dismissed.

I. Don't expect to ever get that lucky again.

'Back in the Day'....excess of 100 in a 30. Actual speed was in the neighborhood of 130 - 135, ticketed? You gotta be kidding.....they got a brief glimpse and I was gone!

Done a lot of growing up since then!

Re: Highest mph/kph over the limit resulting in a ticket

I answered based on motorcycle only. My car history has a few "Good ones" in it. Bike been pulled only once and got a warning. (passed many that i was sure were coming out after me)

on brown ave in manchester nh heading towards the airport (before the new access ramp was put in on 3a to everett turnpike).... that info is for the locals.... anywho... had an SUV and a Honda Civic playing "My dingaling is bigger than yours" in front of me

Click, click, squeeze GONE>>>> bank right onto 3a and see the universal patriotic sign of "this will be expensive" I pull into a hosing development and wait for Mr. Man to pull in behind me. with my licence and registration at the ready in pulls Mr. Man on a motorcycle . I hand him my info and he asks the ever so original "do you know why i pulled you over" to which i said back "I was hauling ass sir". He chuckled and asked do you know how fast you were going... "nope didn't look down"... then he asked "Why i was in such a hurry" i calmly explained the two morons playing the johnson game and i didn't feel safe being by them so i saw a hole and went.

To which he replied "i hate that, happens to me all the time. Have a nice day sir and please keep the speed down"

It is amazing what full gear and a BMW will do for you!!!! If that was my car i'd be kissing pavement (i was at about 85 in a 35).

Re: Highest mph/kph over the limit resulting in a ticket

Knock on wood, I've never been given a speeding ticket on my bikes. However in my car one fateful evening some two years ago, I was cruising down the highway at about 75. It's an unfamiliar highway, but I didn't expect any problems. Next thing I know, I see the speed limit change to 50, and a state trooper standing next to the sign with his radar gun out.

Suffice to say, It did not go well for me.

As long as this thread is still going. 505 from I80 to I5. 30 miles long and no one for miles. In the Porsche, speedo and GPS 163. Hit 135 on the bike. Felt better in the car.

To me, the high speeds feel better on the bike than in the cage.
Bike is steady, not all bikes but my K12 is, the car feels twitchy...

Just my 2 cents...

135 in a 55...

I was following a line of cars inching along a 55mph 4-lane road for a couple of miles. Finally things spread just enough that I could weave through several cars and get past the jam. Once I got past I just opened it up with one of my increasingly-rare full throttle runs up into 4th gear. Held 135mph for a couple of miles, settled down and cruised on until I had to stop for a light. Leaving the light I was back to near-speed-limit riding, but suddenly there were flashing lights behind me.

Turns out the reason the two lines of cars had been creeping along for so long was that an unmarked cop car was at the front of one of those lines. And I went by it at full throttle. Took 5 miles for it to catch up to me.

Lady cop was actually pretty nice - I was expecting to be hauled off to jail - and only wrote me up for 85 in a 55.

Same happenned to me in VT except it was a two laner and the car at the front was a MARKED state patrol!!!

I blew by so fast, was concentrated on oncoming traffic that I never saw him... can't remember my speed but it was fast enuf. Once they had all been passed, I slowed down to amore respectable clip... When he finally caught up to me, he had a hard time keeping from laughing his a$$ off... He couldn't believe what a FI I was! Finally gave me a warning!

I kept it... somewhere!

Cheers

112mph over, lol

177 in a 65

Lately, the most I've done was 150, in the same area. Best time is about 340am-405am. Cops are on shift change and no traffic, for work or bars.

Re: Highest mph/kph over the limit resulting in a ticket

More of a ticket dodged story. Running uninhabited lands in Wyoming last summer, my buddy and I were cruising along about 85, fairly slow for out there, on my K1200GT. I saw a acr way up ahead beside the road, thought "could be a cop", blipped the cruise control off, but didn't really try to slow down much, it was Wyoming, after all. It was a cop, cruised past at around 80 mph, limit was 70, he didn't move that I saw, but I figured it couldn't hurt to put some distance between us. Once I got over the next rise I wound her out for about 10 minutes, probably 135 or 140 mph.

I dropped back down to 70 eventually and waited for my buddy on his slower R1200RT, eventually I see his lights top a rise a couple miles back, but they kind of looked like they were flashing? Damn, the cop. I pulled over, he walks up grinning, says I bet you thought you were free and clear, didn't you? I said, well, yeah, kinda. He said what did your speedometer top out at? I held 125 mph for 5 minutes and never caught sight of you. I said I can't recall, he said well, I clocked you at 81 in a 70 back there, I said seriously? He said we have a lot of accidents, speed is often a factor, I looked around, there weren't even power lines running down the road, I mean nothing, I said here, really?

He handed me the ticket and said "I appreciate you not running, I thought you would". I said "I'm too old to run." Only $98, and no points followed me back to NY.

New high speed pursuit rules in California:
Ten mph over limit, flashing lights only.
Twenty to fifty mph over limit, lights and siren.
Anything over ninety mph over limit, lights, sirens, and they must have a cattle truck escort
