Re: Random Pic of the Day (2)

Not motorcycle related.

This was taken late last week as I was visiting a client in Woodland Park, CO. The buck walked up to within 20' of us and seemed to be expecting food. This is sad because that means people have been feeding them.

K1dude; this is about 1 mile west of Safeway on the south side of I24.

Trevorf,

Funny, I really disliked the looks and lines of those particular Suzukis when they came out. But they have grown on me over the years. Maybe it's because they look so "clean" compared to the cut up "transformers" styling that is in vogue now.

In any event, this "random picture of the day" captures the essence of a nice looking machine. It has become a classic, Trevorf. Congratulations.

Re: Random Pic of the Day (2)

An old friend from back in the day....we were roommates when this pic was taken....he was fast! 9 sec 1/4 miles with no wheelie bars. He used to say "Trevor, anyone can go fast with wheelie bars"...he tragically took his own life years ago....

Gotta have that little "fly screen" up front, though! (Surprisingly effective, although I bet the sport fairing on the 1000S is even better.)(Sorry, about taking this thread off topic.)

But, what about the bikes, Lee? LOL Thanks for the help on posting a picture. Been on the Board here for 9 years. First time to post a photo!

Re: Random Pic of the Day (2)

Lee, I didn't exactly plan to "swap them out." Threw a crank weight through the block of the 327. Just flat wore out the posi-trac. The car has about 700-800,000 miles on it. I used it as a daily driver for 5-6 years. I still have the posi-trac and can get it rebuilt. (Makes a pretty good snow car with that rear-end, surprisingly.)

Mixed feelings when I look at your picture. Part of me is happy to be in Belgium, where it rains a lot but with a full year riding season. And part of me definitely misses my life in Montreal and can't wait to get back there.

Re: Random Pic of the Day (2)

Well, yesterday was the last ride of the season.

When I stopped for gas, the attendant said that only I could be out riding in minus 5°C. Most roads were dry but once I got off the main arteries I ran into this stuff...

Bike got a thorough cleaning and then was properly mothballed.

Little more than a week left before I head back West and start skiing!!

Re: Random Pic of the Day (2)

Was in NY over the weekend, saw my mom and her husband and spent a delightful day with my daughter, Nikki, on Saturday, December 2018, drove out to Great Neck, where I grew up, to take a trip down memory lane. Behind the second house I where I grew up my father carved my name in a large Beech tree. I stopped at the house, knocked on the door, and the family that lives there now, allowed me to take a look. It was still there. Hard to believe its 58 years ago,

Well, on that particular day, it started to snow mid-day while I was at work. I cam back home as it was still light snow and the roads were kept practical by the traffic. Slow ride of course, and the curves are the interesting part... as changing lanes on the highway when snow starts to pack up on the lanes separator. As other noticed I sled my feet when arriving in the driveway. To be honest I didn't like much riding in the snow in the city. Too much unpredictable traffic and so many cagers don't put winter tires, hence become as many road hazards ready to knock you off.

As for riding, it's all on tiny micro drops of gas, using super gently the clutch and forgetting completely about the front brake, forget even about the right lever, only use the foot brake if needed. I don't know the exact power curve but I guess I was riding only on a couple horses power :-)

Winter is here

This is (almost) bitter cold for us in Phoenix!

January 2016, up near Prescott at about 5,000 feet. I felt like going for a ride on a nice day in Phoenix, and just kept going until I got to Prescott. Froze on the way home because I didn't leave until it was dark and the temps dropped a lot. Me with my light jacket and jeans. Thank goodness for heated grips and seat!

We can drive all months of the year, although when it's nice down in the desert, you get cold in the mountains. The non-driving part of the year here is June, July, August, except when you get up early to beat the heat into the mountains. (You still have to get home. In 2016 I came back through the desert for a hour at 119F).
