Ooooh-Boy... Go back to your full Akro and the PC V with a Dyno tune.... In about 3.5 seconds you'll know it was worth the expense..

Nah, I prefer the quieter ride and its still already a cruise missile. Sold the Akra, which was a good deal, used bike came with both exhausts.

Re: K13s Fuel Mileage Poll

Sorry for the Canadian numerics but this is my ride looked like today:

- Filled up for $18.00 CDN - Shell 91 octane, no ethanol - reset the tripmeter
- Rode an average speed of 65 KM/hour
- Made it back home near empty (on reserve indicator showing 15 KM left to empty)
- Tripmeter read 270 KMs covered when I turned it off

So what does that come too?

Re: K13s Fuel Mileage Poll

Hi Pierre,
I think to calculate your fuel consumption we would need to know how many litres it took to fill up the tank again after your trip.
I find the reserve indicator to be somewhat inaccurate. I have driven 50km after the indicator said I was out of fuel, before I actually ran out of fuel. Not paying attention to the location of the next fuel stop resulted in this test!!!
Also, not sure if the Octane rating of Shell 91 is adequate for the bike and may affect fuel consumption. I am sure one of the Canadian guys can address that.
Cheers,
Pete

Re: K13s Fuel Mileage Poll

I now have almost 8000 miles on my 2015 K1300s. Around town/fast rides I get just under 38mpg. But on an actual long trip (Arizona - Colorado - Arizona), I got a pretty consistent 43+.

I once saw 50mpg on the dash computer, going 55mph on the freeway. I'm sure I could get high-40's if I were driving the speed limit and not doing stop/go.

Seattle to SGR and back- steady 47 MPG with Kreiga US30, a tank bag, no panniers and PR4s. Didn't matter how hard I rode- mileage remained steady.

I always rode with the panniers. Always got like 39-42 for a few years. This summer been riding without the panniers, been getting 45-46. All the same commute, 110 mile round trip, half highway, half back roads. On I think my fourth set of PR4's, just spooned on a new set about 500 miles ago

Re: K13s Fuel Mileage Poll

Calculated MPG is normally 40-41, OBC is always way optimistic at 45-47. Filler neck has been drilled so top ups are a little higher. Fuel quantity indicator does not come off of "full" for 90 miles. That may be throwing a curve to the OBC for MPG/range.
Bike fitted with Power Commander and Auto Tune boxes, K&N air filter, stock exhaust. If I run fast, MPG goes into the 30's quick. Tall screen and GIVI bags add to drag I'm sure.

Re: K13s Fuel Mileage Poll

On the few 100 & 200 mile runs I've done, I've averaged about 46 (running between 55 & much higher mph) mostly in 6th. I'm just approaching 7800 miles on my '09 K13s and it seems to be getting smoother too! I need to run up to Rhode Island (from NYC) to fight a ticket tomorrow but it's supposed to rain and I'm thinking of taking the car instead (maybe not) though. By the way, the ticket was supposed to be for speeding but the officer said he liked my politeness so he only gave me one for overtaking on the right (which is legal in NY as long as there's another lane to the right). The officer admired the bike too!

About two years in now

I've got 13,500 miles on the bike now, a 2015 K1300s Motorsport purchased in Oct 2014.

Most of my riding is ... spirited, and a lot around town, but that's mostly freeways too. Only two long road trips to Colorado from Phoenix.

On non-touring drives, I'm averaging 36.7 mpg according to the bike computer. It rarely gets higher.

However, when I'm touring, and I don't like to drive below 75 much as it's simply more comfortable around 85, I get 42mpg.

I'm not one of those who can stretch tires out either. Of course the M3's are notoriously soft for the K1300s, and I only got 2700 miles out of the original set. (Still had a bit of tread above the wear bar). I got about 4500 miles out of a set of Pirelli GT's, but I also changed those out early because I was going on a 2500 mile Colorado trip. The second set made it a bit farther but was also changed out a bit early due to a cut in the rear leading to a blowout.

I posted earlier that I got 50mpg at 70mph, but that was a mistake. I got 50mpg at 55mph in 6th gear, which I think is what BMW said it would do.

I put a booster plug on the bike and it noticeably improved low-rpm throttle response. Didn't change the mileage at all.

I ride 1-up mostly, always with bags and tank bag. (Tank bag holds essentials, including a radar detector hidden in there. Bags allow me to pick up at least something. Without them I couldn't bring home a takeout meal.)

Re: K13s Fuel Mileage Poll

5.4L/100 or 43.56MPG, bike is 20 months old (21K) and previous K with over 50K did almost as good. I do notice the current S, as opposed to previous R gets slightly more kms out of a tank of fuel (350kms)....perhaps better aerodynamics

Only 1000 miles on the clock and mpg is steady around 46, that's not hanging around and into 3 figures. Going to pyrenees next week so up and down the gearbox so will be lower.

Rode with a Harley friend to Big Basin from San Jose. Long ride, few hills and slow as molasses. Evidently the K13 can get 50 MPG (49.8 actually) if you putt putt putt at a sustained 50 - 55 MPH.

Re: K13s Fuel Mileage Poll

My commute is 35 miles one way and I'm rarely below 120-130. My fuel economy is usually 29-30 mpg. I know that seems low but I figure it goes down drastically at higher speeds. Does anyone else have experience with long distance higher speed commutes vs fuel economy?

Well, not so much in the K1300s and commuting... I do know that around town I get 37.5, while on tour I get mid-40's. It's all about acceleration, and too some extent top speed.

I should reset the MPG during a high-speed run and see what the computer says during a sprint.

On my 85 K100RS, I got high 30's around town, but sustained speeds of 110mph plus dropped that to about 20mpg.

I once gassed up near Palm Spings, then took a back way toward Phoenix. Stopped to take a picture of a sign that said 'Next Services 100 Miles'. Got to that gas station 1 hour later, and I needed to gas up again. (85 K100RS, 5.3 gallon tank).

Re: K13s Fuel Mileage Poll

Constant 80 - 85 MPH I get just over 40 MPG
100 MPH drops it to around 38 MPG
120 MPH I have less info on but seems 33 - 34 MPG
150 MPH bursts up from constant 100 MPH gets me under 30 MPG
I must also add a stiff headwind drops MPG noticeably.

Local police say their K1300s trial bike gets 30 - 32 in "normal riding". But then again they carry a ton of stuff and ride hard.

Under the heading of "slower is faster" 100MPH is faster than 120 MPH Barstow to Vegas as I don't have to stop for gas.
One of these days I will actually run the event again.

That's 48-50 mpg in US gallons. I find it hard to believe that's a true average. My lifetime average is 38 mpg US gallons or 45 mpg Imperial gallons. I've gotten high mpg I a tank when doing strictly highway drone with no traffic. Although, I wonder if you are using the results from the onboard computer. I've verified that it is optimistic by a few mpg.

Re: K13s Fuel Mileage Poll

My mileage just took a nosedive.
About a month ago Wifey and I bought a Tesla P100D. About the same 0-60 as my K1300s, but with little fanfare. Just hit the accelerator and it does it.
Now I find myself using a LOT more throttle on the K1300s. Mileage is in high 30's down from low 40's. And I see a clutch rebuild in my near future.

Acceleration is addicting

Sounds a bit like my mileage. Posted here at least once before. Was getting 39.8 mpg before putting in a Booster Plug. And after two years or so - still getting 39.8 average. The current 39.8 is an average since I reset it last year before taking a trip to Colorado. By the end of that trip, my mileage was in the mid-40's (touring), but once back home to Phoenix, average quickly reverted to 39.8.

Running Angel GT tires, almost always solo, always have bags (usually empty) mounted, along with a full BMW tank bag. 205lb rider.

Last 3 tanks i have an average of 42,77 mpg. Or 5,5l/100km. Small backroads mainly, here in sweden usually these roads have a 50, 60 or 70km/h limit.

I always get an indicated 51.3 mpg however I ride. No idea if that has any basis in reality.
