RED K1300R CLUB - New Member

Thanks to Randall (Aussie K13), I've bought this Red K1300R and joined an exclusive club of legends.

Bought it yesterday, stayed in Melbourne to cuddle a baby, and rode home today via the Black Spur to Healesville, Marysville, Alexandra, Eildon, Jamieson, Mansfield, Whitfield and home to Wangaratta. 500kms to get rid of the chicken strips the previous owner left behind.

Bike has the usual ABS, ASC, ESA, Quickshift as well as factory panniers and BMW Navigator V GPS.

For all that I've only got one photo to show. Taken at a lookout on the Eildon to Jamieson Road.
K1300R - red.jpg

Riding the Snowy Mountains for two days with Randall and Jenny next weekend, so there should be more pics coming.

Now I just need to sell the K1200R. Anyone who refers a buyer that leads to a sale gets a slab of Fosters.

Congrats on purchasing the best motorbike on the planet in the best colour!!!
Well done John, Randall will show you the Red K1300R club secret handshake. If you can't remember it at next years rally you get a lap dance from Heapy.
Be great to hear a review on the comparison between bikes too!

Cheers

Yeah, but they'll be up the front. Because red is faster and does not attract Police attention

I'll learn the handshake but deliberately forget for next years rally, just so I can get that lap dance. Is touching allowed?

A few first impressions on the differences from the K12 to the K13
13 has the stock exhaust which after enjoying the Akropovic symphony on the 12, is too quiet.
The 13engine is so much smoother, more refined than my 12. Makes my 12 feel likes it's got a lumpy cam
I reckon I can feel the extra power the 13 has over the 12. At one point I accelerated past a bunch of 4 wheel drives in 4th gear, clicked into 5th with the quickshifter and it felt like it hit powerband. Felt as if the front got a bit light.
How good is the quickshifter
With the extra torque of the 13, riding in 3rd through the tightest of corners is so easy.
The suspension seems a lot firmer than my 12. Guessing that's due to mileage. I rode my 12 in sport mode everywhere. Sport mode on the 13 is too hard, and I only used it in the twisties
Much stronger rear brake on the 13 than the 12. and that's after the 12 had new pads installed
In saying that, found myself using the engine braking more. It seemed easier than the 12 to roll off into a corner, ride through and accelerate out without braking too much.
Riding position is the same as the 12, but the seat is so much softer. After 500kms in a day, the arse was still in good nick. Is so soft and cushiony that it actually squirms a little when moving around. Maybe I have the mythical "comfort" seat. Tanya had a sit on the back and immediately could tell it was much more comfortable. The 12 seat is a plank compared to the 13
Cosmetics - not much difference. I do like to rear light assembly and the indicators on the 13 over the 12.

On the weekend coming we'll see how it goes two up. With the extra torque, soft seat, quickshifter and factory panniers, it should be great.

Congrats John, even though it is dog cock Red its the bike that matters and you keep telling yourself that

Totally agree with the engine braking comment you made. I did 400ks yesterday and hardly used brakes while on the move and don't think I used the front at all . Sometimes I think these bikes have excessive engine braking.

.

With that description of your arse John - everyone will want to touch it now.

Well done on the new bike. I am quite conflicted over getting a k13 as I like my k12 so much. Fortunately my wife is of great assistance here - she just says 'no'

Howdy

Not an owner of a 13R YET, but seriously considering one.

Have the features on the 13R Motorsport version changed between 2014 and 2016?

There is a 2014 at a dealer nearby for $13,000 (USD) which seems like a good price.

I've found it difficult to find any information on the changed between the most recent years.

Thanks for your help.

LOL. That's the first time I've ever used that acronym. I didn't realize until you pointed it out how my comments could be misconstrued.

As for the wife, mine nudged me towards buying

Anything for a lap dance. Congrats John and Tanya.
Now all you need to do is shop around for a fairing.

With the new Ventura rack system on my bike for this year's rally, Deb was way back on the seat and so I've returned home with no calluses at all. So I'm back to normal with tender, sensitive plums, just like you, Doctor 350.

Hi John,
Congrats on the new ride. Not that you needed the more power to be faster!
Anyway, you now have to get working on a new photo to go alongside your name.
Cheers,
Pete

Hi John. Looking forward to it as well. I see the boys are doing a bit of reminiscing in the shout box.

Do you know anything about this mystery lap dance they're talking about?

Totally agree with the engine braking comment you made. I did 400ks yesterday and hardly used brakes while on the move and don't think I used the front at all . Sometimes I think these bikes have excessive engine braking.

Hey Dave, Sounds like your feeling better mate, what's the update on your riding situation bro?
Not trying to rub your nose in it, but you were missed at the rally, I followed you all the way into Omeo last year and boy that K13R with the full Akro (mapped properly) sounded awesome!!

Guilty your honour, I was there and missed it also. Was a pretty heavy night, as John has confirmed. Uncle Fester is the man in the know.

Re: RED K1300R CLUB - New Member

John:

Congrats on the new bike - I'm really glad for you. You mentioned something about the bike being red - I really don't know that color or any color for that matter - like the great Henry Ford said - you can have any color you want as long as it is black.

I'm completely color blind - all I see is black - maybe there is something wrong with me - no on second thought maybe everyone else has it all wrong.

Yes these high compression engines sure have a lot of engine braking - I kind of like it - when you don't need a lot of brakes many times just rolling off the throttle does the trick.

Hey Mat, steroids are wonderous drugs and I know why the young folk love them so much. I've been on the bike four times and it's basically back to normal except the 400k morning ride was less than enjoyable by the end. I'm back to the specialist tomorrow and off the steroids as well so time will tell.

Re: RED K1300R CLUB - New Member

going to hi jack this thread, Im back with an R I sold my S a couple of years ago for a 1200 multistrada, was good but got sick of the ************************ly problems. Then went completley off the rails and traded it in for a ktm 1190r to go west a bit more but just cant get passionate about its manners down the pavement and had this craving for a K bike all the time, so after watching bike sales every day for at least 3 months watching how long they hang around for ,I pulled the trigger and did a deal with a fellar in sydney with only 4800 kms on the clock still with original rubber{has been babied} and am tickled pink to be back in the K club. Very keen to catch up on a rally some where with the eastcoast warriors, cheers for now Wardy

Thanks Paul,

I had a look after the auction was over, but couldn't see how much it sold for. Maybe I needed to be registered.

Definitely went for more than I would have expected too.
