End of Warranty check

My bike is just coming up for 2 years old, and the end of the manufacturarers warranty. I know I can extend it if I want.

Anyway, my dealer has sent me a letter inviting me to pop in for an end of warranty inspection (which they've never done on my previous bikes). I guess it's new...I have already had a look round and everything looks fine to me. Two questions for anyone that's been through this:
1. Is it as simple as them looking round my bike and fixing anything they find, or is it e.g. a sales led thing where they try to get me to trade up?
2. Any common issues with a 2 year old K that people have had sorted at this time?

Cheers

Rick

Rick, have them check for worn ball joints and leaking shocks.

Even if it is a fishing expedition on their part, why not take them up on it? You can always say no thanks.

Re: End of Warranty check

Is there a charge for this inspection, or is it complimentary? Curious... is the warranty only two years in the UK?? It's 3 years/36K miles here in the US...

Re: End of Warranty check

I have every intention of taking them up on it (and yes it seems to be free), if i can find the time to book it in. I asked the question because I am curious why they are offering this - surely it can only cost them money if they find anything. Maybe they get to charge it back to BMW if they do? It might just be genuine good old-fashioned customer service!!

Re: End of Warranty check

I look at it as a friendly wager. They are inspecting the cycle. If they find something that costs a couple hundred to fix, you might spring for the more costly warranty and never have to file a claim.

Re: End of Warranty check

The dealership gets paid by BMW for any warranty work they do. So, any repairs that result from the visit is new revenue for the dealership. And it's also an opportunity to sell you an extension or show you a shiny new Bagger that would look snappy in your garage.
