How much drive chain play at rear wheel in first gear

Hi, With my K1300s on its centre stand and the bike in first gear, when I rock the rear wheel back and forth I have 37mm of movement, measured at the extreme outer rim of the wheel (not the tyre).
My bike has covered 43k miles and I am curious if this amount of movement is normal?

Re: How much drive chain play at rear wheel in first gear

So have you looked for a spec on this in the Repair Manual? I've not read of anything like this.

It's not unusual for a Shaft Driven Motorcycle to have what feels like significant "slop" in the Drivetrain. Try the same on the Front (front drive) or Rear (rear drive) Wheels of a Car and you'll witness similar "slop".

There are several things in play here what with Tolerance Stack-ups, Gear Mesh play, and the Rubber Damper parts in the Driveshaft. Maybe ask other owners to do the same as you did and compare with stated number of miles/km?

Panason1c, my bike at 40.000 miles has more or less the same play at the rear wheel. Nothing to worry about I guess.
