I think it’s a really amazingly precise marketing call on their part which probably has a great chance of bringing in new riders. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it copied by other manufacturers.

Damn, i'm 40+ years too late, what a great college gig that would have been! Of course 40+ years ago when AMF was running Harley it's unlikely that the bike would have lasted a summer

Re: H-D looking for interns...

I believe there are only eight openings. I don't think that will do squat for any real marketing, just 8 more dangerous kids on the road when they realize that HD is a pig and cant keep up with their buddies and now go out and buy a sport bike, All sponsored by HD and they wonder why sales are down. I think the less they promote the better off they will be.

How do you figure the less a manufacturer promotes their product the better off they will be?

As far this internship goes I see HD winning - no matter the outcome - if the young riders continue to ride and stay loyal to the brand they win.

If the riders don't continue to ride - HD gains all the feedback as to why they didn't like the experience - specifically if it was the bike they didn't like or simply motorcycling.

I really don't think young HD riders are going to be more dangerous than any other young riders - and in fact I be wiling to bet this internship is going to have some sort of guidance for these riders which in fact may actually turn out some really good safe riders.

I don’t see any downside to this form of marketing, which I think is just brilliant, given the times and what HD is trying to accomplish. My son is a millennial who consulted for HD in a tangential marketing project, and he loved this idea, in fact, saw it before I sent it to him.
