I almost got that mileage coming back from the BRP rally. It was my second to last tankful on I-80E in New Jersey. The low fuel light went on and I looked down and the trip OD read 169. I was shocked as that is a first for me. I was using lots of cruise control and seeing how long I could keep it engaged. All at a fairly high speed around 80+. Also I suspect I must have had a tail wind with the weather front moving across the Northeast.

Anyway, I use M3's and they never have let me down.

Talking Re: Tire Poll.

I currently use a M-3 on front and Z6 on the rear. I get about 4,500 out of both.

I get 200 miles to the tank here in Texas and 240 miles in the mountains of NM. I shift at or before 5,000 rpm. I run about 80 to 85 mph to get this mileage on fuel & tires

I say go with the Michelin Macadams if you can find them... I still have the ORIGINAL tires on the bike at 37k miles. They look to be reaching their end after the recent hard riding at the BRR, but they probably have about 5k left if I'm careful. Just be sure to be vigilent to check the pressure regularly and these tires will last a long time.

Re: Tire Poll.

I need some help guys & girls,
I am ready to order a set of new tires(possibly pilot road 2's).
Question is, is there a site sponsor that you guys order from that is linked to this site or someplace else? If so where is a good place to order tires online?
I also do not know which tires to order, after reading this thread and
many others, I am confused on which tires to order, pilot road 2's or pilot road CT?

Any help is always great for a newbie to this site.
Thank you

No site supporter for tires...many, as I do, order from here.

http://arizonamoto.com/Merchant2/mer...tore_Code=SWMT

Hit the search button in the blue bar above and run a search on those two tires your considering.

You absolutely won't find a better vendor than SWest Moto. Great selection, prices and oh yeh, outstanding service.

RE tire choice, you'll get lots of opinions. The PR2 are nice tires but three of us that have them on the GT2 have experienced front tire cupping (and resulting poor handling) at the 3K mile mark. So, I won't get them again. I just installed the Dunlop Smart tire and did a 300 mile ride on them...very good in moderately agressive riding. Not enough info yet on the wet performance and how long they will last.

Good luck.

Over 2k mi on Z-6, no prob. for 02 K1200rs. BGest source varies. Got mine in Oregon, free ship to east. Local Honda shop same tire cost alot more and both came from Parts Unlimited. Go figure.

Re: Tire Poll.

So far for the 2007 K1200S we average 3,000 miles per set. Trips to Texas from NC get 5000, but nothing goes 6000.

Avon Storms
3000 local, 5000 single long trip

Bridgestone 021
3000 local

Pirelli Diablo Strada
3000 local (barely!)

Dunlop Roadsmarts
dunno yet, but they feel like the Stradas, so no +3k expectations.

I'm going back to the Avons next set. I love the quick turn-in of the Avon Storms. They drop in by themselves and you have to steer out. Everything else has a steer in and come out on it's own knid of feeling. So it's all subjective. Our best tire was the Pilot Powers that came on the bike, but at 1800 miles a set that just won't do. And may Rosy Bottom have pity on us, but that's just all we get.

See y'all all in Jasper Arkansas next week. We'll be wearing out tires and swatting flies.

And hopefully not dodging this time.

Re: Tire Poll.

Just bought my second set of Michelin Pilot Roads today. 15050 total mileage on the K1200GT and I bought my first set at 7446 miles. I rode the first set a little too far. I had cord showing for about 1/3 the circumference on the back and fully worn tread on the front. The bike went from full tread wear on the back to 1/3 cord in one day's ride of about 30 miles. I'll change the second set when the wear indicators are gone next time. I'm guessing between 7000 and 7200 miles.

I don't think I have much to complain about and am not smart enough to find the perfect tire.

I don't think I have much to complain about and am not smart enough to find the perfect tire.

Too much work. I kick mine before every ride. Like I told the old guy at a BMW rally one morning when he said, "You can't tell how much air is in there by kicking it." I replied, "I'm not checking how much. I'm checking IF."

Re: Tire Poll.

Went to the bike show in Abbotsford, BC today. The K1300S had Conti sport attacks on it. Rear wheel is 190 55 17. This size seems to be found in mostly track/sport tires not sport/track days tires. I imagine they will become common with the bike's deployment.

Re: Tire Poll.

This is disappointing. Pilot Roads on my 07K12GT - 5833 miles new to cord. SH*T. I'm 66 years old. I ain't riding the bike that hard. I've got ABS and I'm leaving no rubber behind during takeoff. Where's the damn stuff going? The good news is all the nubbies were gone - ALL.

Put PR2s on today. We'll see.

I find Pirelly Diablo Corsa III (120/70 & 190/55) are the best for my track days.
Shall I vote the Pirelly Diablo Corsa option?

If you do that every day you won't have the 42.1 rear and 36.3 front. I think your gauge is broke..

Re: Tire Poll.

Road Pilot 2 front and rear

Over 10 K miles to Alaska and back to Arkansas. (counting a couple of side trips.)

I had a flat on the rear at Destruction Bay, plugged it and came on home. Replace the rear after about a month back in Arkansas.

Rear....Road Pilot 2....~ total 11 K miles when replaced.
Front...Road Pilot 2....~ 14 K miles and still running with descent tread.

Riding with vertigo I don't get real fast in the twisties so I think this is why I am able to get such outstanding mileage.

Or it could be I am just old. Either way I get very good mileage out of my tires and I love my 2004 K1200RS!

Agreed. For me, you can't go wrong with the new 2CT Michelins, whether it be the Pure, Power, or Road 2CT tires. Normally I'd opt for the Power2CT's or Pure's for my type of riding, but I ran a set of Road 2CT's on the KS for a west coast trip last year and managed 6500 miles out of them on a bike fully loaded for a two week trip. Ran big speeds while crossing the desert, touched a knee down on the CA coast, and ended the trip WITHOUT cords showing (I would have guessed 500-1000 more miles were available but I changed out to attend a rally).

It's not on your poll but I have AV55 on the front and an AV56 on the rear. The is my first time with the Avon front but I really like the Avon rear. Replaced at 9000 miles with a bit of life still in it but wanted to started with a matched set and see how she goes.

Re: Tire Poll.

When I went to have my Z6's replaced for my 2001 KRS the tech at the place I get tires changed recommended I try the Bridgestone Battle ax BT 23's. Evidently everybody putting them on has been very pleased with them. They cost less than the Z4's and 6's.

So I had a pair put on. I immediately felt the difference. The BT 23's mad the bike feel more nimble. The tires felt thinner. Having ridden on them in various conditions now for about 600 miles, I really like them.

They seem good and sticky
The z6's felt far less responsive
The bike rolls over into the curve easier.
It is easier to hold a precise line in the curve and takes less effort to keep it there.
They are also supposed to last a third longer than other tires.

Now to see if they cup.

So far I would recommend them.
Mike

Does anyone out there have any feedback about the Angel ST's? Checking prices for the Diablo's I came across this ones (looks like they been around for a year or so). Motorcycle Superstore reviews show good notes (A's and B's)

I've got pilot roads and am coming up on 7000 miles with them. I've tried to ride it hard a little bit but I'm mostly commuting to work or on the highway headed to the mountains. They look great so far with probably 2000 or more left in them. I hope at least. I'm definitely getting the PR2's next.

Re: Tire Poll.

I would never use the M3 on my 1300gt. I bought a set for my wideglide and they wore out way fast. 3k miles. My 1300 weighs more than my Harley. I spoke with Metzler about the wear issue and was told the M3 was never designed for any Heavy Bike. A light sport bike is where they stick. I am happy with the z6 tires at 8k miles. I will try the PR2's though.

I know that currently my vote goes toward the Michelin Pilot series tire. The Road2 is a great tire if you are heading out on a long trip providing great wear and good stick for the first 75% of life even at high speed/heat. Running in high speed/heat they do tend to be more squirmy at end of life.

On the other end if you don't care regarding long trip road usage, the Power2's (2CT) offer great stick and decent life (approx 3500-4500 aggressive miles). I have a set of Pure's to install on the bike next that I expect to handle similar to the Power2's.
