Re: Has your BMW K bike experienced a Cam Chain Failure?

Have done 6000 miles with my manual tensioner now, all is good and no adjustment needed and of course no rattles. The BMW dealer was also happy to service the bike and stamp the book with it fitted, of course the bike is well out of the warranty period.

On your manual tensioner, did you buy the APE? How DOES one determine you have it at the right tension? They're a lot cheaper than the K13 upgraded tensioner.

I soaked the APE unit in oil before fitting to make sure the spindle was well lubricated, backed the adjuster off, fitted, put a socket/wrench on the end of the crank and took out the cam chain slack by rotating slightly in the clockwise direction, hold it with a slight pressure on the socket/wrench then rotate the tensioner until you feel resistance and then back off 1/4 turn and tighten the lock nut. Job done.

I have an upgraded tensioner if anyone wants to buy it!
