Battery Change

Changing out the 200 CCA OEM battery on my 2015 Motorsport this weekend for a 360 CCA Braille. Old battery is weak from lack of use-bike only has 752 miles on it. Other than remove and replace, is there anything specific that needs to be reset due to CAN BUS? Also, can you stick one of those 9V battery pigtails in the left electrical port like you can in a car's lighter socket to maintain any memory settings? TIA.

Re: Battery Change

I recently replaced the OEM Battery on my '11 K1300S with an AGM Battery from the local Interstate Batteries Store. I have read elsewhere on this Forum that one needs to do a Throttle Calibration before running the Engine. This was a requirement on my old '99 R1100S as well.

Once the new Battery is installed and the Voltage at the Terminals is at least 12.5V do the following:

1. Turn the Keyswitch to the ON position and wait for the red/yellow Triangle to go out on the instrument display. DO NOT Press the Starter Button!

2. Slowly rotate the Throttle from Minimum to Maximum back to Minimum position at least 3 times.

3. Wait 10 seconds then turn the Keyswitch to the OFF position. - DONE with Throttle Calibration post-Battery change. Motorcycle is ready to ride like normal.

I don't think a 9V battery on the 12V Acc Port would work at all since its not directly connected to the Battery Bus. I'd avoid doing such a thing in the first place.

Our '12/'15 VW Cars are similar in this regard. What I did for Battery change on those was to put a Battery Charger on the Battery Cables (used Alligator Clips) during the Battery Swap. No Radio Presets lost and Engine ran well afterwards.

Re: Battery Change

I have one of those 9vdc battery data savers. I tend to agree, they are old news and I would not use it. All you will loose is the clock time.
