Geartex 80w-90 in the FD ?

Would it be Ok to use the Geartex EP-C 80w-90 oil in the final drive?
It is rated API GL5.

Re: Geartex 80w-90 in the FD ?

Close enough, but 75W90 is so common. Please don' use that 75W140 stuff.

Re: Geartex 80w-90 in the FD ?

I had 1L on the shelf of this Geartex and thought i ask if it was usable in the FD, bought this sometime for a to me now an unknown use, must have been on the shelf for at least a year considering the dust on it.

Re: Geartex 80w-90 in the FD ?

Seems like the Geartex is Mineral based, while the SAF-XO that BMW specifies is a synthetic oil.

If this was my bike I would not have used Geartex.

SAF-XO was the Castrol spec recommended by BMW when Castrol was their oil supplier.

SAF-XO is now called Castrol Syntrax.Been 2-3 yrs since I picked up such at a dealer.Should have bought it locally at half the BMW price.
