the god awful fan noise

after reading all the fine articles and the cur for the clutch vibrations I was wondering if anyone has ever dismantled the fan and found out why the things sounds so god awful? do they uses tarp grommets for bushings? I dunno but its damned annoying I see a few on ebay may buy one and dismantle it for the hell of it. the thing vibrates so I doubt its just the blade design. Its as bad as an old school bus.

You seem a defeatist lot. Fan is not old bike has 36000 KMS on it do the fans really have to sound worse than a 40 dollar oscillating table fan from a Chinese sweatshop?

It rarely kicks in but when it does I suppose its a comfort to know its there doing its job. Through a helmet and moderate to severely deaf ears its a shock.

Pull it out. Check for smooth tips on the blades and no nicks in the leading edges. Smooth any out. If it can be removed from the motor, check the balance of the fan, and bearings and straightness of the motor shaft. If all is good, your only option is to gamble on a used one. BTW, how many Chinese sweat shops have you visited? I've never seen them listed on tourism brochures.

Knowing the German mentality, they probably want it loud enough for you to know that it is working.
My k1200r sport with less than 1000 miles had an overheating problem. 4 trips to the shop with various parts changed out, and they removed the fan to check it. there was a rock wedged in the blade.
No fan, no noise, no cooling.

Touching the 90s F here. At almost every red traffic light the bar creeps up and the fan turns on. Good weather is coming for you.

Nothing defeatist about it. I donít think they sound as bad as you think they do.

Re: the god awful fan noise

how about some serious answers you guys!!
like......
try stopping less, and only in the wind when you do.....
record the sound and play it in your sleep until you dont notice it......
ask your dealer how much to repair the bike when it overheats.....

Re: the god awful fan noise

I think the space available for a fan is not that great therefore to cope with the small fan diameter the blades have an aggressive pitch hence the 'noise'.

Re: the god awful fan noise

Try heat shielding on the headers it worked for my k12 and k13 it also keeps some engine noise in the pipe till it reaches the baffle box at the back.
