Thumbs down TOOLS TO CHANGE REAR DRIVE OIL???

My 2010 K1300GT is in Europe and I am in Canada. The bike needs to go in for servicing, but I want to be sure the rear drive oil is up to the proper level before driving it to the dealer in the UK. The rear seal for the drive shaft is weeping oil. I would like to add more gear oil. To do this I need to know the TOOLS to A) drain the rear drive of oil and B) add the 180ml of gear oil so it is at the proper level. the manual states to change the washer on the plug that you use to close the top opening but does not give any info on drain plug for drive shaft. Is there a washer on the drain oil plug?

There's a o-ring you can probably reuse.

Smile Re: TOOLS TO CHANGE REAR DRIVE OIL???

The rear axle seal area has been weeping oil out for the last 300 miles. This occurred 40,000 miles ago and one BMW expert person said "Do not worry." I had it changed within 80 miles and the dealer stated "you saved thousands by changing the seal"

Thousands?
Yeah did you top off the oil and or change in short order?

I have a pressure washer doing the same thing/ cheaper bit of gear though

If you're talking about the outer seal under the black plastic ring, I would have the dealer replace it while it's in for service.
It's a quick repair.

Thumbs down Re: TOOLS TO CHANGE REAR DRIVE OIL???

I am having it changed when it is at the dealer. BUT I need to know what size of each tool to remove the plugs so I can place the correct amount of oil (180ml) back into the housing before I drive the bike again.

Re: TOOLS TO CHANGE REAR DRIVE OIL???

T45 torx for the drain plug and 6mm hex for the fill. You should change the o-ring on the drain side after three fluid changes. There is also a washer for the fill side. I had the outer seal replaced on my FD (under extended warranty) and the dealer changed the fluid when they did the repair.
