New 2018 Catalano Grey

I went over to Adventure Motorsports of NWF in Pensacola and picked up a 2018 S1000R yesterday. WOW. I brought it home (200 miles) in the truck. I rode it about 75 miles before it got dark. Can't really evaluate much cause I was busy just hanging on. I only tried ROAD and DYNAMIC modes. Since I was mainly paying attention to the road I didn't fiddle with all the options.
Biggest difference to me, coming from my lovely red pig (2000 KRS), is the acceleration, quickshifter and the feeling that I still need to shift upward while in 6th. This thing feels like it's winding out at 6,000 RPM. I'm still in break in mode so I won't push it until I get the first service next week. I can't imagine what quick shifting at near redline will do!
I do like that quickshifter. I'll write more after I've had her for awhile.

Update:
I've got 225 miles on it and I need between 500 & 600 for the first service. I'm thinking of riding the bike back to Pensacola next Tuesday for the scheduled service. That's 200 miles right there. I've ordered a wind screen and tank bag. The plan is to truck it to The Hill Billy and drink https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodford_Reserve with Karl and yuz gals. Bottle is already in the truck.

Pete, that is a nice looking color scheme. It tones down what I think is "busy" about the bike. I rode Renee's last year at AHR. Wow. What a really sweet ride these things are. See you in a few weeks!

Thank you, I passed on a better offer, money wise, in Orlando. He offered a 2018 with everything except an alarm system. It had the red white blue $500 extra color scheme and forged wheels. Same price that I paid. Really a smoking deal. I just like the under stated look. And Pensacola is closer and a pleasant drive along the coast.
See ya soon

Nice S1R, I looked at buying one summer of 2017 but the riding ergonomics didn't quite fit me right. There's a new S1RR coming out in 2019 so a new single "R" can't be far behind.

Nice sled Pete! Like the color. I agree about the it being more understated than some of the other louder color schemes. If it was black it'd be even faster...

Yes I'm keeping my red Piggy. It is my true love. She has taken me all over the United States, Canada, Mexico and part of Central America. I just spent $700 having the Wilbur's rebuilt. If I'm going to go back out on the highway again that's the bike to take.

Re: New 2018 Catalano Grey

Once you start passing cars or busting down the road, you will find the wind blast over 80 is an issue, especially when your trying to hold on over 100. This little double bubble MRA windshield does the trick. The change in styling is small in respect for the huge wind protection.
Mine is a 2018 also but I like the older silencer, smaller and sounds just right. Nothing like having a 1100$ Akrapovic on the wall. This is an amazing bike. Like you said, let me know how you like the bike after doing 1 2 3 to 10 or 11K rpm full throttle. Not to mention launch control. Besides, smaller and light bikes are good for senior citizens. Your also going to need a rear wheel stand.

I just got this yesterday. Have not tried it yet.

Just ordered a Sargent seat. The stock seat is uncomfortable after a couple hours. It also slopes toward the tank.

Re: New 2018 Catalano Grey

I think the Catalano Gray is the nicest color so far for the bike series. Find something for the tank by your tummy for a guard. I finally went with clear 3M plastic so more color would show. I do have the side shark skin grip pads on though. Yes, new to you and will take a few miles to get into the grove and break in the bike. One thing also is to keep to the owners manual clutch lever gap to .5 to 1mm. It grows wider as the bike warms up so measure it when cold. Too much opening and it messes with the two clutch switches it operates. I love the little beast. I take it touring if the trip is 4 days or less. I bought a Hepco Becker rear plate rack that subs in for the rear seat. Then tie on a ortlieb bag. Good to go. There is a mount system for a GPS if that is your thing. A plug for it on the left side under the plastic. Go slow when removing plastic. The new system uses minimal screws but has plastic tabs and pins the go in grommets to secure the other end of the panel in many cases. I ride in Dynamic most of the time. The last and most aggressive setting really leaves you hanging out there. Good if your a wheelie monster. My bike came with Bridgestones on it. Handled well but the stiff sidewalls make them nasty. Put Pirelli diablo rosa corsa on and much better. I have yet to try out the cornering traction control, pick a line and open it up wide. Too much to explore, so little time. I also installed a separate to the battery socket for charging, air compressor and heated jacket liner. You guys in Florida don't know about heated gear, I forgot.
