Cool Belly Pan Screen added

Just wanted to show my screens I added to the lower belly pan area. I know some of you said it may make more heat on the foot area... However, I haven't felt any heat. I just like the looks of it, many after market belly pans have the same cut out with screens.

Shelly:
I like the screens. May or may not serve any function. But they look cool.

Yup my buddy KC and I did it ourselves. It only took about 2 hrs. He used a saw that looked like a drill. Then we just sanded and filed it to our liking. Then drilled some pilot holes for the screws that attach to a spring something ??? It's just a little square black piece curved with a hole in the middle.

I have extra screen if anyone wants any. It's black power coated screen. It looks like the screen that comes on security screen doors. It's heavy duty, we found a 6'x4' for about $20 bucks at Lowes. I also have it on my air scoops but I knew you guys would blow sky high about that. But, there is a story behind it...

Re: Belly Pan Screen added

Good job. I can't tell, but from the pic's looks like a pop rivet or are they screws?

o.k. but no one better blast me for it...

I put the same screen over the air scoops! I have the Evo (cheaper) air filters. Maybe they just came with too much oil in them, I don't know? However, when I opened up the air boxes to clean them, there was at least a two inches or more of saw dust looking dirt in the air boxes. Along with grasshoppers, bees, flies and other bug parts, grass & tumble weed parts etc... I should've taken a picture but I was just in shock! I've never seen such a mess in an airbox before!!! Now on the back inside of the air filters, it was still white and clean, so nothing got through from the looks of it.
I can't see how the bike ran as good as it did, it was on fire the way it was running! You would never know it had so much crap filling the air boxes!

So that's the reason I put the screens on the air scoops, just to help keep some of the larger crap out! It doesn't seen to hurt the speed (or mileage) any, as I just did a buck-forty plus several times this last weekend with no problems. I was going to take the front part of the scoop off and attach the screens in the middle so the opening would be larger but I thought I would try it this way first. Seems to be o.k. and look nice to boot...

Re: Belly Pan Screen added

"So that's the reason I put the screens on the air scoops, just to help keep some of the larger crap out!"

That reminds me of a quip in a motor mag some 20 years ago. It was a review of the then-new Ferrari Testarossa and referred to the large air intakes behind the door...ahead of the rear wheelwell. Those intakes had only a couple of fins and the writer said that they created the impression that the engine was so huge and required so much air that they could only afford to keep out the big things..... like kids and soccerballs and garbage can lids.
