I'm Bill !!!!!!!!! Don't forget it

http://www.i-bmw.com/gallery/showpho...44272/cat/1845

I just joined I-BMW today, right now. I'm 65 and I just got my first computer! Here is a picture of my awesome, bitch'n ass, bike, that I don't know how to ride, because I'm scared of it!!!!!!!

I had a motorcycle in the past. I had a Brand Spank'n New 1976 Honda750Four K model. I bout it brand new off the showroom floor on Monterey Street in San Luis Obispo. I sold it in 1982 to my Best Friend, Tim, for $500. It had a Windjammer fairing.

All these years later, Tim made me buy a 2002 BMW K1200RS! It sits in my garage, doing nothing, because, every time I start it, it makes such a manacing growl, that it scares me!

Please help me! I want to ride again. Tim, is talking a bunch of bs about me, he is known here as jmtenthusiast. Acutally, really, he's right. hahahaha Anyway, please give me advice, I want to see all of you on the road some day. Right now, I'd be happy to just make it down the street.

Re: I'm Bill !!!!!!!!! Don't forget it

First thing I’d do is take a basic MSF class and see how you do, the bikes are usually only a 250cc that they supply, so no money lost on purchasing another bike, See where your confidence is when you finish the course. I’d hold off on selling the RS till after the course. The RS is nothing to be scared of with only 125HP! Just maybe after the course your confidence will be back and you’ll feel comfortable on it. But to be honest if your still scared after the course, you may have to just face the fact that riding is no longer a safe sport for you. You need to feel confident when you ride, there are too many idiots out there and you need to feel confident to handle the unexpected and not freak out.
Just my opinion.

Re: I'm Bill !!!!!!!!! Don't forget it

Take a motorcycle safety course...the throttle works both ways...those bikes are smooth as silk and handel great...go at your own speed, what feels comfortable to you...take the course... I saw personally how much the course works when my ex took it...she had an 1150 RT...after the course we would do some local loops starting at 10 or 20 miles, each time we would go a little longer...3 weeks after the course we did a 350 mile ride and 350 back the next day...she did great though I’m sure she was little nervous...she became a great rider doin the Dragon probably 7 or eight times and many many other twisty roads at a brisk speed...good luck to ya...

Re: I'm Bill !!!!!!!!! Don't forget it

Welcome Bill. Definitely take the basic motorcycle course like the others have suggested. And when you start to ride just take it very easy. You may want to ride roads with less traffic until you get used to everything. I'd also suggest practicing slow maneuvers in an empty parking lot. It will take time but you'll get used to it.

Just my opinion but the basic course teaches you how to pass the
license test, not much more. After doing that see if you can take a
track day for novices. You'll get a feel for the bike.....
When you get out on the road remember that you are invisible, no
one sees you. Ride defensively like your life depends on it
and it does!

Re: I'm Bill !!!!!!!!! Don't forget it

welcome.

take the MSF basic course on the little bikes.

then take the MSF intermediate/returning rider course on your bike.

yes. the classes are basic. yes. the classes are low speed. that is exactly what you need to get back into the game.

if that gets you comfortable again riding, take a class at a track. you can gradually increase your speed as you feel more comfortable in an environment not on a public road with traffic.

and you will have a ton of fun.

I never noticed this before. Maybe it's an optical illusion? Look at the sharper angles of the front nose fairing of the RS on the cover of the brochure as opposed to our bikes. Did the one on the brochure ever exist?

Welcome Bill. Start visiting motorcycle shops and looking over the 650 to 800cc bikes out there. Lighter and easier to maneuver at low speed. Here's an example.

Our local dealer has 2 or 3 leftover 2015's. Automatics DCT models. I'm not sure about what to expect as a discount. I would imagine they'll want to get rid of them and never order them again. These are very unpopular bikes, the Honda NC700x dct. The salesman said they have been very unpopular in the United States. Seems to me it's a good time to buy one, if a person likes that sort of thing. I remember when the Yamaha Turbo 650's were sitting on dealer showrooms too. Wow, now that was a bike! I owned three of them, top speed was 145 mph, I had it pegged! Shaft drive, smooth, full fairing, damn, I want another one right now. There was a go-fast trick that few people knew about, but I did. The waste-gate was set for 5 to 7 pounds of pressure. All a person had to do, and I did it to all of my bikes, was make a thick aluminum plate that covered the waste-gate. The waste gate would not open and bleed off pressure. The bike had a secondary valve in the air-box, set to 11 pounds. I relied on that one! Wow oh wow oh wow oh wow. The front end would come off the ground in almost every gear just by rolling on the throttle! And the engine screamed through the gears so fast I had thought about putting an air-shifter on the bike. Taking off on the Yamaha 650 Turbo was a launch pad experience. Shift your weight forward in order to keep the front end of down. Don't roll the throttle on too quickly in first or second, you didn't have to do that. The engine would would hit red-line as quick as you could humanly shift, BAM, BAM, BAM, BAM, BAM!!!!! And guess what else? The airflow of the bodywork was the best of any bike in the world. Pure bliss, not helmet buffeting. Only a few big screws to remove all the bodywork, took like ten minutes.
