Another K1300S Owner

Well, I just bought a Metallic Grey 2009 K1300S from BMW of Manhattan (pictures are still on their site). It has about 1600 miles and the HP2 Digital Dash, which is why I picked that bike. All recalls and other issues have been done. It had been a dealer buy back and after researching the circumstance of the buy back and the resolution of the problems, it seemed like a great deal. I traded my 04 K1200GT for the K13S. I was going to also trade my 07 R1200S but felt I could get more selling that privately.

Incidentally, I want to complement those of you who provide such important information on this site. It really is a great resource for those less informed as I am.

Thanks,

Congrats. The HP2 dash is beautiful, but so much $$$$. Getting one already on the bike is definitely the way to go.

Sounds like you are going to have fun this spring. Is the 1300 better for your smile than the 1200.

Re: Another K1300S Owner

I am thinking of having the dealer put on the Remus Hexcone before I pick up the bike. They will give me a pretty good deal (10% over cost) if I do it now. Any opinions on this upgrade?

Re: Another K1300S Owner

I have one on my bike and it is neat and tidy. Leave the baffle in and it is not too loud. Be sure to save your original silencer, they are expensive and you may want it someday. Takes only 5 minutes to exchange them.

Beech,

That really looks good on your bike. I will probably do the same. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Another K1300S Owner

There are good pictures of the bike, including the dash on the BMW of Manhattan website. I was impressed by the color when I saw it in person. It looks white on the computer screen, but was a beautiful silver gray in person. I never thought I would buy a white bike, but this color is great.

Re: Another K1300S Owner

I wondered when somebody was going to ask that question.

There were two problems. The first had to do with air getting into the front brake lines and it took two attempts at the dealer to rectifiy that problem.

The second issue was rough idle and throttle response. The bike was, I think, at two different dealers before it came to BMW of Manhattan. Neither of the first two dealers could solve the problem of the bike running roughly and the bike sat at one place or the other for quit a while. The bike was then bought back by BMW N/A and subsequently wholesaled to BMW of Manhattan whose mechanics determined the problem was (I'm not too good on the technical term) intake air box which BMW of N/A agreed to replace at their cost. It seems the box had a manufacturing defect causing it to be misshaped. Again, I am not sure the technical details or nomenclature, but this is the general course of events.

I told BMW of Manhattan that I did not want to buy a headache and they assured me that the bike is now perfect. Time will tell on this assertion, but I thought this story might be of interest to others who may have a problem similar to the one this bike had.

Take care,

Dnack

Re: Another K1300S Owner

Congratulations on the K13S!! A world of difference between the '04 GT and the "S".

Basically did the same thing; traded an Orient Blue '03 GT in on the then new '05 K-S. Think you are really going to be amazed at the overall performance of the 13S.

And, on the GT forum, you may have just saved the bacon for a guy in Malaysia who has a rough running and stalling 13GT they can't seem to sort out. Just suggested he get his dealer to swap out the airbox. Odd, that was an issue on the K12s, but hadn't heard of it happening on the 13s.

Re: Another K1300S Owner

Miles,

Thanks for the words of encouragment. I have riden a few K12S's, but never a K13S so I am looking forward to it. This site was the clincher in my decision. I am expecially looking forward to playing with the HP2 dash since I like gadgets and technology.

Take care,

Dnack
