Am I the only one that is happy with the way my S runs?

After reading numerous threads on dissatisfaction, I'd like to see in a poll format: if I'm the only one who loves my S the way it is.

I have an '05 BumbleBee with 7200 miles

Re: Am I the only one that is happy with the way my S runs?

I have a 2005 K1200s with 54 K on it. I've had no warranty problems with it. Other than the ABS release when braking hard and the need to concentrate (when the bike is at low rpms when turning sharp, right angle corners) to make it smooth, I really like the bike. It's comfortable with a confidence inspiring feel to it.

07 Tricolor 5600 miles no complaints. 2 finger shifting cured the clunking. could not return to an KRS, as much as I liked that bike.

After getting it updated to the lastest software (over the summer), the FI is greatly improved and I'm perfectly happy with the bike now. Its not perfect, but now its very close.

Re: Am I the only one that is happy with the way my S runs?

'07 tricolor K1200S, purchased in May, now has nearly 9,000 miles.

Minor problems:
*TPM did not work soon after purchase, consistently recorded ~4 lbs. light per tire. When rear tire was replaced it magically started working correctly again.

*potentiometer - Flickered between 1-5th gear no matter what gear I was in. Had problems starting it a few times. It was replaced at 6,000 mile service last week. Seems to run perfectly well now.

* Bike died and couldn't be revived. NOT a BMW problem but an owner problem as the autocom was incorrectly wired which drained the battery. Battery replaced under warranty even though it was user error, not a problem from the mothership.

* Tires - damn tires wear out too fast!! Again... might be a user problem or.. possibly a problem with the throttle sticking open for too many miles and smiles.

Love this bike, but it does make life more of a challenge because all I REALLY want to do is ride it!!

Good Thread Terry!

06 with 14,700 miles on it. Updated software once to version 7.X and had the squeaky clutch fixed at the 6,000 mile service under warranty. No issues at all. Love it!

Re: Am I the only one that is happy with the way my S runs?

My '05 is closing in on 34,000 and another 18k service - meaning valve check and new spark plugs. My only complaint is low rev, 1st gear turns. Upon meaningful application of the throttle coming out of that 1st gear turn, it slightly hesitates. Very slight, and I have no problem getting around it. This bike continues to amaze me, and like Muddy1, I can't seem to ride it enough. I've not updated the FI constantly - only once, and I can't say enough good about BMW of Orlando.

Service next Tuesday, DGR the following Tuesday...

Re: Am I the only one that is happy with the way my S runs?

'07 tricolor K1200S, purchased in March, has 17,500+ miles...
My only complaint was a fuel issue, v9.2 update has taken care of that.... Other then that, its the perfect ride...

One other issue, the S is always in need of tires , which means down time..

I must be the only one with a problem...

So I will be the bitch of the bunch here. Mine s-u-c-k-s and I am tired of the herky-jerkies, the stumbles, the flat spots... It does have terrific brakes, though - I have to admit that it will stop so fast you can see your wrist watch rewind...

I am patiently (sort of) waiting for the new air box "fix". If that doesn't work, I am going to talk to them about the "California Lemon Law"...

Really, really like the bike but it does get me down the reliability of it sometimes, thank god for the bullet proof warranty. But have a look here for an out pouring on the bike.

Re: Am I the only one that is happy with the way my S runs?

The "engineering" of this bike, it's saftey features, comfort, and the confidence it instills "allows" an older (68) rider like myself to enjoy the overall performance envelope of what really is a "super-bike"!!! (whereas bikes like the Gixer and R1 wouldn't)

It's an early 05 and has been steller since downloading the 6.0 software about a year and a half ago.

Shifting in the first few gears might be annoying to some, but after numerous tips here on the forum, it's really fun to play with the tranny to the point where it just doesn't "clunk" - most of the time. <g>

Absolutely love the bike.

Re: Am I the only one that is happy with the way my S runs?

Interesting that the satisfaction profile is running about the same as it did for a similar poll on the GT. About 85 percent if you add the first three options.

Somehow, I figured it would be higher for the K-S.

Re: Am I the only one that is happy with the way my S runs?

It's strange, some days the bike stumbles, gurgles, and backfires, and I really have to wonder if they released this bike a bit too soon. I think the fact that it is so long and difficult for the "silver bullet" fix to come along makes me think there is a basic design flaw in it that mere software and airboxes doesn't fix?
Other days it runs virtually OK, and I overlook the minor coughing and hacking back there.

But the really wierd thing is that I always look forward to the next ride (and I do enjoy it), unlike any other bike I've had. Just think how great it would (could) have been...

I'll keep it for now!

I have an 06 S, no issues, factory installed software version, 7500+ miles.

As with most bikes, you get used to the idiosyncracies!

I may push for a 9.x or 10.x update at the next wallet lightening ceremony at the dealer.

Add me to the very satisfied contingent. Also an early '05, 15,000 miles, still no issues, run my ass off on this thing. Gonna keep it 'till it dies!

My '05 is a running fine now. Factory build issue caused some grief but local dealer was able to fine and correct the non tighten clamps that let in air that shouldnot have been getting in. Speedo went out at 3200 miles.

Re: Am I the only one that is happy with the way my S runs?

I have almost 7,000 miles on my S. The tranny is not perfect. The FI at low RPM's is also not perfect. However this motorcycle is so much fun to ride. For me it is the perfect all around bike. Sure does get it done when riding alone. And it really is pretty good two up. Even though the bike has its faults, I would have to say this is one of the best bikes I have owned. I would buy another one without hesitation.

07 would sell today if not for the loss I would take. I have stooped riding it just to keep the miles off. I have all the bad things that you guys have plus front brake noise. Got bike to shop guy gos for ride. We will call in a day or two. Has Ben more than two weeks. No call. This is my first BMW. If things dint change soon it will be my last.Things are better than this at HD.

Re: Am I the only one that is happy with the way my S runs?

Had an early grey '05. Got rid of that problematic one and got the '06 bumblebee. Customised the heck out of it and was pleased and lived with the throttle abruptness, slight clunk in 1st gear, back firing upon deceleration, heavy clutch pull and the occassional engine dead at stop lights (happened about 3-4 times in a year).
It had the 6.0 software.
Sold it and and got an '06 CBR 1000R.
No problems in 8,000 miles and it only has a slip on, race filters, a PC III and Heli bars.
Smooth as silk throttle, light clutch action, fantastic brakes, HESD steering damper and more than 100 lbs lighter than the K1200S. Maybe down the line when these problems are resolved I will be back as I have always done... In the meantime, I just enjoy the forum.

Re: Am I the only one that is happy with the way my S runs?

Had an 05 S...loved it, traded for an 06 S, and just returned from a 2400 mile ride through the mountains of Colorado with two friends that also ride 06 K12 S's. We had a ball, and no problems other than a rear tire that now needs replacement.

This bike never fails to make me grin each and every day!

Maybe you should look for another dealer and give them a shot.

I am fortunate enough to have an '07 that purrs like a kitten and then roars like a tiger when you twist that right wrist!

If there was ever a pole put up a few years after Vic first started the site asking about satisfaction of RS owners I'd like to see how it compares to this one.

I don't like the back firing and the slight stumble is has at low rpm's.
I thought my rs was a great ride but this is better as it is lighter and easier to handle.

Re: Am I the only one that is happy with the way my S runs?

I had an '03 KRS Zebra that was crushed by a cage, replaced it with an '04 KGT Orient Blue for 33K miles, and four months ago bought a leftover '06 KS which now has about 12K on the clock.

As much as I liked both the KRS & KGT (essentially the same bike), I have to say the KS is better in every area for my use. Yes, the throttle is more twitchy at low rpms, but power is like a rocket at the high end, and KRS & KGT weren't exactly slow. A buddy of mine on his '06 FJR and I went from Tucson to MotoGP in Monterey by way of Oregon and back in the second month I had it. We did 2,800+ miles of a lot of twisties, particularly on Highway 1, and I felt less fatigue than on either of the previous K bikes. The 100+ pound weight decrease makes a big difference in flickability. I did move to Z-6 sport touring radials after the oem Bridgestones were gone in 2,900 miles. Fuel economy has jumped about 20% at touring speeds.

To me, the only downside is for those that ride two-up often. The pillion sits up in the air similar to sport bikes and not very comfortable for rides that are much more than an hour.

Besides the MotoGP trip, I went to Bonneville for BUB week and than did a loop from Tucson to Durango to Moab, and back.

It's a great ride and continues to put a grin on my face.

Works for us doing back to back 600+ mile days or twisty day rides. And we have proof.

Just finished a 2600 mile road trip to the DGR and back this past week and the KS performed flawlessly... didn't miss a lick. I'm starting to like this bike

Hold up... I love this bike!

My 05 k12s is in for a 30,000km valve check.28,500 on the clock.Turns out one of the cam shafts is shot! Cam lobe worn through the rocker arm. I would hate to pay for that one.It needs a new battery too.
