Got mileage? (how many miles ya got?)

Irrespective of bike type, how many TOTAL miles, across ALL BIKES have you accrued over your years this far?

Be HONEST

Re: Got mileage? (how many miles ya got?)

Dang, forgot to add in a bike,my total is around 157K.I did 28yrs on h.d.an put on 115K.Last four years have been BMW's with 64K.On harleys averaged 4100 miles per year,on BMW averaging 16K per year. What a diffrence switcing has made,I have enjoyed the last four years more than the 28 years on the h.d.'s put together.I have seen the light.

Thought you meant on the KRS (10K-40K). Oh well; I'd only be one category above lifetime. No biggie.

I just had to guesstimate also, figure somewhere around 250000 since I was 8yo, but for 5 years alone I commuted and was riding at that time right at 25k per year.

Nice Poll Vic!

Let's see if I can get this right by memory.

Honda 125.............8500
Huski....................12300
Kawasaki 900 Z1.....18500
Yamaha 650 Special..33000
Yamaha 650 Maxim.....43000
Honda PC 800............25000 would hold two 12 packs in the boot!

BMW R1100R..............22000
K1200RS......to date....19,912

I underestimated by alot! 182,212 and that does not count the numerous rentals I abused on trips abroad.

I screwed up and put in mileage for the K12 not lifetime. Lifetime is a little over 70K.

Re: Got mileage? (how many miles ya got?)

Of the last two of the bikes I've owned, the '92 Mighty ZX-11, had 100,000 miles when I sold it to a movie company and my '98 Taxi had 120,000 miles when I sold it to a guy from Iowa. When I add all the other bike's mileage into the equation I get just over 400,000 lifetime miles.

64 on the GT (just kicked over today)
24 on the K75RT
13 on a CB350 too many years ago. Fun little bike (not so little at the time). Brakes and tires today are indescribably much better, though.

Re: Got mileage? (how many miles ya got?)

I'm still pretty new to the K world, though I did get my 100K mile cert from BMW a few years back. Maybe I should shoot for 100K on one bike...

Not by bike, but by type of bike, my 26 years of motorcycle miles rack up thus:

Japanese standards: 24K
HD: 32K
Japanese Cruisers: 15K

Airheads: 77K
Oilheads: 50K

K1200RS: 6.5K

But who's counting?

I tried to guess a little low, so you would not think I was being full of B.S..

But, my last 3 bikes before the GT all had 70-80,000 on them. When they left.

I started riding in 1967. I KNOW the miles were a lot longer then. Because it took forever to get to my friend's houses. Maybe the bikes were slower or the brownies better, then.

Re: Got mileage? (how many miles ya got?)

I am still trying to verify my years riding through a friend of a friend.

Either 49 or 50 years. Started at 9, 10 , or maybe 11 ? I do believe

I have rode at least a few hundred miles every year since I started, but had no

interest in keeping records until I got around BMW's, and as I think of it I am with

Rock: "So I will say I have a few miles, but nowhere near enough"

Hell I can't remember last week that well.

I just turned 59 and I do remember all to well how much

more effort and time it took to get a 300 mile day back in the 60's.

And very few ventured far at all in the 50's. A cross country was really something

special back then. Not that it still isn't. Think months waiting on parts back then.

Especially if it came from across the Big Water.

I have over 90,000 BMW miles since March of 2001. A little over 60,000

on my first beemer. A '01 1150GS, and almost 32, 000 on the 04' RS I traded

for in July '04.

A bunch on a 1983 Wing I got in 1991. Guessing maybe 80,000.

Quite a few on a Suzuki GS 850 before the Wing. This was probably the first bike I

owned that I felt super confident in doing real long stuff with.

This being said I think us old 'thugs' should get to count the miles of the 50's , 60's

and up to the mid 70's when the interstate system pretty much got completed as

triple or a least double of modern day miles. Five of us rode out of Evansville, IN

for Bike week 1968 or '69 at Daytona. Only two of us made it all the way.

It took three real long ass days. I rode a '67 XLCH that belonged to a buddy, the

other guy was on a Matchless I think, or maybe a BSA ? They warned us about the

aftereffects of all that wild living, the booze, drugs and wild women. All I would

change would be that I would do even more of it all. All I know is just like present

day I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than I didn't.. 10 million more miles on

motorcycles wouldn't be enough for me, but I know I am a greedy bastard.

Guessing 150,000 the first 30 years. Maybe 250,000 the past 20 years.

I clicked he 300,000 to 400,000 button least my ego get to carried away.

Hell I know I am nuts because this has got me remembering smiling as I rode in

cold rain, snow, across Death Valley in Aug., and all kinds of so called bad shit.

Now who's got some good cheese to go with my whine ?

Stay safe and always remember like some guy signs his post: "That OLD

bikers don't get that way by Accident !"

P.S. I do not like this getting old stuff, but there's only one other alternative !!

And don't you dare ask me about the like new 1965, 175 Ducati I bought in Dec.

1966 when I got back to "the world" from Vietnam. Wow what fun !!

Doing the math:

114,000 miles/43 MPG x $3. per gal of gas = $7953
12 sets of tires @ dealer $350 = $4200
19 6k Services @ dealer averaging $300 = $5700
-----------------------------------------------
$17,853 not counting misc and depreciation on bike(s)

114,000/182 days = 626 miles per day @ average speed of 50 MPH puts him in the saddle 12.5 hours a day.

He probably had at least two bikes, one always at the dealer ready to go.

Hope it was worth it!

Damn, Ray... congratulations. As I recall, that has been in a fairly conservative amount of time, right? Happy trails...

Re: Got mileage? (how many miles ya got?)

I left out dirt bike miles, do those count? I think I did 1 mile sailing through the air for every 10 on the saddle on dirt bikes.

I was a little over agressive in my younger days.

I estimated a conservative 10K a year even though I've averaged about 20K for the last 10.

Re: Got mileage? (how many miles ya got?)

Close to 190K.

Overall:

1980 Vespa P200E 6K :: sold to buy
1985 Vespa P150X 10K :: sold to buy

'67 Beetle [ex wouldn't let me get a Yamaha Radian]

After separating, I bought a 1985 Suzuki Savage (yuck!) and rode it for a year or so. [8k] After taking a few trips home to NC, I decided that I needed a bike with "long" legs.

The local Honda dealer wouldn't do a deal on a Nighthawk 750, so I started looking for a used bike. I found an '84 R100 in Avus Black with hand-painted pin stripes. The bike was big, had hard bags, and fit me just right. It needed a fair amount of work, but the price was right. With this bike, I learned that real BMW dealers were better than the multi-bike palace that wouldn't deal on the Honda. [Yay Bob's!]

My life riding Beemers:

1984 R100
28K :: sold to buy
1995 R1100GS 21K :: hit by careless cager
1996 R1100R 67K :: traded for
2001 K1200RS 54K and counting

The K1200RS I ride is probably the best Beemer I've owned except for the R1100GS.
I would probably still be riding the GS except for having it hit from beneath me
by lady in a car.

never filed a 'Flight-book', but throughout the years I have 'worn-out' some bikes.... Don't have a clue of how many miles.

VgLambrecht (Sadlebum) over 5 road bikes 130k mi is really a conservative estimate. Not counting several dirt bikes. Now I have 2003 k1200RS, best bike I've ever had. They say once your over 60 never buy a sport bike; their wrong.

Re: Got mileage? (how many miles ya got?)

My '92 K100RS has 215,308 miles on the odometer this very evening. Very dependable bike.

Oops, I thought they meant on the bike. I put 22,000 on my K100. I don't remember how many miles I put on my GPz750 Turbo. I do, however, remember my longest ride: From Ft Irwin, CA to Chicago. Chicago to Washington DC. Washington DC to Ft Rucker, AL. Ft Rucker, AL to Three Rivers, MI. Three Rivers, MI back to Ft Irwin, CA. I always sy in 10 days, but truth be told, I don't remember. All I know is, it was less than 2 weeks. because, that was all the leave I had. Quite a ride.

I finally made the decision to fulfill a 21yr goal and took the plunge back in Jul 07' by picking up a slightly used 02 R1150R. Some recommended I get a 600 or 750 but I said, "Why start small and want big soon thereafter", so the 1150 with 85hp seemed a great starter bike. 15 months later it was time for an upgrade and almost twice the hp with the 08' K12S. It was the perfect fit. Now I have 36K on the K12S with over 80K combined. I have to find the paperwork from the first bike to get the accurate number. This year I will surpass 100K total miles with no problem. Not bad numbers for under 3 years of riding. Love to ride!

Re: Got mileage? (how many miles ya got?)

36+ years of riding, many of those years I did not own a car. I tend to wear out the ones I don't total (I wear out more). Wife and I were sitting around reminising about the 185k we put on my wedding present from her before kids and tried to figure out my bikes I had had in my life and then how many total miles - we know we are missing some but I can remember 18 motorcycles and am well past that 500k+ figure, just not sure how far past.

We both know I am gonna die riding something ... not sure if it will be her or a motorcycle tho.

B/T 40-70k. Started riding in '82 and had my last bike in '90. In '08 got another bike and first Beemer and have already clocked over 12,000 in under 18 months. I can't stop riding my K12RS.

Re: Got mileage? (how many miles ya got?)

I learned to ride about 5 years ago on a K75S (LOVED that bike) I had about 14,000 on that one before I sold it and bought the R1200ST. Had 56,000 on that one when I got rear ended (I was really hoping to hit 100K on that bike) Now I have the K1300GT with 18K on it - So I guess in total I have 88K - Wow, I didn't realize how many until I wrote this down. I wonder if I can hit 100K before the end of the year???

Passed the 1,000 mile mark this weekend!!
On my 2007 K1200GT that had 4,800 miles on it when I bought it.

Ya, not very impressive, but at least it's progress.
Piling on the miles, one by one.

Re: Got mileage? (how many miles ya got?)

I just realized that I have passed the 100K mile mark in my seven years aboard BMW's. I've bought 4 new BMW's since 2003, beginning with my first, a black K1200RS in August, 2003...

2003 K1200RS 24,000 miles
2005 K1200S 36,000
2008 K1200S 24,000
2009 K1300S 19,000
Total BMW 103,000 miles

This is shaping up to be my highest mileage year, with 19,000 miles in 11 months... No commuting, strictly pleasure riding...
Loving every mile...

Okay, you guys that don't think that commuting and pleasure riding can coexist have motivated me. I need to go out and get a GOPRO and make a few videos of the various routes I can take to and from the office. Those of you that know Northern California Santa Cruz/San Jose area know HWY 35, HWY 9, Woodside Road, Page Mill Road, Black Mountain Road, Old Santa Cruz Hwy ... I commute on my bike every day and still wear out the sides fater than the middle.

I'm not saying that at all, Dan... then again, I wouldn't exactly call your ride to work a "commute"...
To clarify my post... I am strictly a recreational rider... my miles are mainly weekends and a few 7-10 day rides thrown in throughout the year...

PS... I love your "signature" sign... I rode past it a few weeks ago on Hwy 49 on my way to Pre-SGR in Downieville... I should have stopped for a photo but it was raining...

Absolutely no argument there at all. Friday coming home was trafficless for some inexplicable reason. It took me a over 2 1/2 hours to get home ... it was aweful. Note a direct freeway ride home is maybe 40 minutes. At every decission point "Do I take the more direct way home or THAT way ... " THAT way won every round. I realized I should probably call my wife so whe would not worry when I ended up at the coast at the beginning of sunset.

My other favorite sign

A total of 8 bikes to date and IV clocked approximately 175000 miles. Half of that in just the last 10 years on the last 3 bikes. It just gets better everyday for me. The more I ride the more I wanna ride

2003 K1200RS, no "commuting"...107K miles. at the same time I racked up miles on three other bikes: 70k on CBR1100XX, then 20K on ZX1100,
then 15k on vfr800 current

I want to see the beemer roll 200K

I'm 56 and the math for total miles is too time consuming to calculate (40 yrs)

Estimate only...

I generally run between 20-25K annually, 27 yrs since I started, 4 year hiatus due to injury...

20K*23=~460K?

Re: Got mileage? (how many miles ya got?)

About 100,000miles in my first 10years riding.. then a break for 10, now I've been back riding for 12/13yrs and have added another 385000km (which is all recorded in a spreadsheet) or about 240,000miles.

So all up about 340,000miles or just about 550,000km.
A mix of commuting and pleasure... actually it's all pleasure as riding makes commuting a pleasure
