Re: front break disk lockers shot
Very scary indeed - did you notice anything before seeing this? did it affect braking (later, noisier) or was everything working as usual?
BTW: what bike is this?

Re: front break disk lockers shot
I did notice wh sound of the disks moving at slower speeds (<20 MPH) was louder when it was freewheeling. The sound of the disks moving in relation to their mounts (sort of a soft version of a cycle chain moving over sprockets) while braking was essentially unchanged.
Just the week before I was in a military dictated hurry and was hitting over 130 MPH. (woke up late, formation in 1.5 hrs, 188 miles in 2 hrs 15 min. still late but not in huge trouble) It did NOT affect breaking in the least. I believe these are the original parts. Although the disks may have been changed in the past. the bike has 217,500 miles on it now. I have only put 25,000 of those on it myself. I bought it in May 2006. I don't think they would affect braking untill they completely failed. At which point I think the disk would have come loose and locked up in the wheel or torn the fork off. Either way Scooby Doo is parked untill Shaggy gets some parts. What about crazy glue?? ![]() |

Re: front break disk lockers shot
Here is a picture of the the bike, a 1992 K100RS, informally called Scooby Doo, 'cause that is trhe theme song that tends to run through my head when I am riding.

Re: front break disk lockers shot
Yesterday got the break parts installed, today pulled the radiator out to get to the fan and pulled it apart and greased and oiled the bearings in the motor. It has a good 64th of an inch clearance between them and the shaft. there are felt oil sponges within the motor to keep the bearings lubed. I will replace it next year wen I get back. As for now I will be out riding these last three weekends .

I sold my 95' K1100LT with 180K miles. I had changed the rotor buttons twice. John B. K-Rider |
