2010 Moonshine Lunch Run is back!!!

April 8th - 11th and the big day for the Official Moonshine Lunch Run date is Saturday April 10th...

Yes,,, your worse nightmare is back!!!

The Main Moonshine Store Lunch Run Ride from 2009???
We had 700* people,,,

On 600* bikes,,,

From 39 States*,,, and 3 Countries*,,,
Eat a total of 1,119* Moonburgers...

Those 700 people on 600 bikes rode a total of 360,000* miles round trip from their home,,, to Moonshine and back!!! This is an average Miles per rider of 514.3* miles each!!! Per bike comes out to riding 600* miles total to eat a Moonburger!!! To make it a shade easier to visualize this distance,,, this is to the Moon,,, and ½ way back!!!

(((* new records set)))

To make this soak in to your craniums a little better???

Sturgis has a population of around 6,000 people...

Moonshine has 2...

We brought over 300 times as many people into Moonshine that Saturday than live there...

If Sturgis raised their population 300 times it would need to have 1.8 million people all inside the city limits on a certain day... Moonshine KICKED,,, Sturgis Arse!!!

Proudest fact for me is,,, if you take the total miles ridden to 5 Moonshine Run Lunch Runs,,, and don't even count the Pre-Pre,,, Pre,,, Post,,, and the Post - Post Moonshine runs??? We have rode around 1.2 million miles to the Moonshine Run,,, and knock on wood,,, no one has been seriously injured... We have had a wheel come off a bike last year at speed,,, and a guy slide in a turn in Colorado but,,, with 1.2 million miles total,,, that is amazing safety record!!!

Even though the T-shirts cost us about $1 more than the year before,,, we did not raise the price for the shirts… We gave $800 to the Casey Food Pantry,,, $800 to the Fire Fighters,,, $800 to the Crisis Center... $300 more than last year to each…

We have $3,000 to go towards the Mission work which includes the Children’s orphanage mission in Mexico… So,,, all in all,,, even though we raised less selling shirts than years before,,, we gave more money this year… A Tribute to all those who cared…

Thank you... You truly have made my dream a reality... And,,, this time,,, Reality is better than the dream...

Thanks Parker!!!

I am glad to see a little support on this site... I am getting told how I can post,,, and the size and colors to post on here???

Look,,, this Moonshine Lunch Run whole deal is to put people/riders together no matter what you ride... If you do the miles,,, through the weather,,, your welcome...

The money raised through this goes to a Childrens Orphanage in Mexico,,, (((Around $3,000))) $800 to the Casey Food Pantry,,, $800 to the Crisis Center,,, $800 to the Fire Fighters,,, will be around $800 to the Martinsville Food pantry...
This Moonshine Lunch Run was a Wacky Idea,,, Started by some wacky Riders,,, who will ride Wacky Distances,,, in Wacky weather,,, at a Wacky time of the year,,, to a town with a population of 2,,, called Moonshine,,, to eat a Moonburger and go home...

This will cause some wacky post,,, and I am sorry...

I am turning over a new leaf on here... I will not post in big fonts,,, or Color Fonts by request from "The Man"... It is their sand box,,, and I am just a guest,,, which I feel not that welcome to be honest with ya...

I have to ask??? If you do not want people using the Font colors and sizes,,, WHY,,, in the name of Maria Osmond do you have them on your site,,, and if you can use them,,, who gets to use them and when???

You're more than welcome here... we encourage our forum members to participate regularly. So let me ask you... how many posts have you made here since the last Moonshine Lunch Run, and what were the subjects of your posts?? I commend you for organizing this event, and for the worthy causes which it benefits...

but dropping by here once a year exclusively to promote your event with a huge, in-your-face announcement seems a bit more like drive-by advertising than forum participation.

Re: 2010 Moonshine Lunch Run is back!!!

Your invitation to all i-BMW members to join the ML Run is very welcome and has always been supported on this site.
Not only is the announcement welcomed but you are and have been encouraged to keep us informed of this wonderful event.

However, a number of us have contacted you privately, asking that you not use a huge "page" full of bold lettering in your post.
Each year you have posted this information and each year the response and requests have been the same - to no avail, so now
I thank you for your kindness in changing the text a bit.

It is rather difficult to click on a thread and have it jump out into one's face due to the size and intensity of the font.
No, it is certainly not a requirement to change the font size and boldness, the large size seems to jump out and attack the
....fragile... aging....and ... sometimes mentally unstable minds that affect some of those OTHER site members.

Now let's get on to the meat of your invitation. I had many questions for you last year, which you answered with great enthusiasm.
I even asked you to post up some photos instead of a link to a ride report ... and you gave us a huge number of photos and colorful
details after the fun died down. Hopefully, this year you will do the same and attract even more i-BMW members to your lunch run.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--
Here is a cut and paste from 2009:

Quote:
Forgive me for asking.. I mean with all the numbers you keep posting, but, I have looked on the site for the Moonshine Lunch Run and I still don't get it.

That is ok,,, I have been to everyone,,, and I don't really get it either... Believe me,,, without showing up,,, you will NEVER understand it!!!

Quote:
It seems like a lot of statistics just to say that people rode somewhere to enjoy a meal. The mileage that is posted, even for the longest distance ridden is still nothing like that ridden by lots of I-BMW riders to get to rallies to eat and ride with friends.

Most rallies you speak of are not in Early April,,, in middle of Nowhere Illinois,,, to a town with a population of 2,,, 12 miles from the nearest town/motel,,, to eat a Moonburger and go home... This is not a BMW/Honda/Kawasaki/Suzuki/KTM/Yamaha/Can Am Rally... This is a Long Distance Ride to meet friends,,, you might never have met before... And last years winner of the Long Distance award rode 4,700 miles to attend,,, and rode in snow for 2,100 miles of it to get here and back... I will stack that against longer miles in July riding to a rally anyday...

Quote:
So, without all the bold accented statistics, how about some plain English to explain why this event is so special.

This MLR has always been about how Riders,,, ride... Weather/location/time of year does not matter... If they want to ride,,, they will... The amount of Iron Butt Riders and even the elite Iron Butt Rally Riders who attend is staggering... This,,, is what makes it special...

Quote:
You are clearly hyped about it and it seems you are nuts too

So,,, we have met then!!! How can you NOT,,, be hyped about a Free event,,, for the sake of Riding and meeting friends??? Does not matter what you ride,,, as long as you are there,,, and you rode...

- cooking for everyone that shows up!! Damned friendly of you!

Once you come to Moonshine Lunch Run,,, you are family... You do not charge family to eat at your house,,, so I never would either...

Quote:

By the way, have you ever made it to one of the I-BMW rallies?

3 to be exact...

I hope you make it,,, and that way,,, you will see why they all come,,, and come back every year...

We all come to Moonshine for a Moonburger,,, but we take home so much more...

Re: 2010 Moonshine Lunch Run is back!!!

As I said last year on the 2009 thread???

# 1 ~~~ From about November - January 1st I am working on getting the info together to launch the www.moonshine-run.com site...

# 2 ~~~ January 1 through around April 20 am guessing 92.7% of my time and or internet time is spend answering e-mail/PM's/Letters/Phone Calls/Post from about 10 web sites the MLR is put on by members... I did not start the original thread on the ST-Owners/ST.n/FJR sites to name 3 but I answer any and all questions from Meal times,,, motels,,, travel problems,,, you name it...

# 3 ~~~ May 1st I have by then disappeared into a Tractor cab and am farming 100% of the time...

# 4 ~~~ June 15th I hope I am done farming to take my annual Blue Ridge Parkway trip... From June 15th on my time is Farming,,, Family,,, and Riding...

# 5 ~~~ About Sept 15th I am through with riding mostly and spend time in Harvest...

# 6 ~~~ About November 1st I am done,,, and Start the Bubble machine again,,, time to make the Donuts...

# 7 ~~~ I use to post on here when I had a BMW... I read,,, and still read often on here... But without a BMW my post would just only be of the social nature,,, and I am sorry I do not seem to have time to make it over here to do that... Between the ST-Owners/ST-1300/ST-Riders/ADV/COG/MTF/ST.N which I have been a member to all of those for years,,, I can't even post on 1/2 of those with the time online I have...

I am Dropping by here to post FOR,,, the BMW riders who want to make this,,, and who are members on here that have ASKED me,,, to post the MLR updates on here as they are not members of those other sites...

How many are members who showed up to the MLR from here??? Hard to tell... But I can tell you that since Jan 1st I have had 19 e-mails from 17 members from here till today... Today,,, I have had 7 e-mails from 7 members on here apologizing for getting called on the carpet and hoping I do not just give up... I have had 1 PM sent to me,,, asking me to not post BIG,,, or in Colors... 26 - 1 in favor,,, I will take that as a positive...

Re: 2010 Moonshine Lunch Run is back!!!

Thanks Muddy!!! I do remember us yacking last year and thank you for being so cool about it too...

Look,,, if I was not asked to be here by other members to post on here,,, and some of the BESTEST MLR riders are the ones from this site... Would I??? Probably not... I like the FJR site and am asked 20 times a year why I will not update them??? I have never owned a FJR so,,, I feel I would be only there to Carnival Bark about the MLR,,, and I won't do it...

I do,,, like this site,,, and when/if I ever get another BMW,,, I will quit posting on another of the mulitpul sites I post on,,, and start posting on here again often... I did just that about 2 months ago when I quit posting on one site to free up time to add the Versys site since I bought one and was in need of farkling expertise...

Sorry this is straining the Mods over here... I do not wish that on anyone/site/group...

Terry, YOU are the positive one. It is your wonderful energy and determination that draw so many of the members to your lunch run.

Keep drawing them in.... and post up the results with lots of photos and quirky information about the fun odd things that happen when you get such an eclectic group of riders together.

Thanks Muddy!!! Your Moonburger is on me along with your beverage of choice for being so cool about this...

Updates will continue,,, pictures will be posted from last year soon...

The MLR is about impossible to describe,,, hard to get to,,, and forget trying to explain it to a wife/girlfriend and/or a non riding family member/friend...

Thanks again Muddy... Hope I can meet you in the real world...

Re: 2010 Moonshine Lunch Run is back!!!

If we met,,, I was the Ugly guy riding a different bike each place I was at...

National Rallies??? Regional rallies I would come and go to... But,,, National??? Ok,,, I will see if I can get this question correct without cheating and digging through boxes of stuff...

I was at Asheville back in,,, uuummm,,, man,,, was it 2004,,, 2005??? It rained,,, and rained,,, and rained... It was at the Biltmore estate... Really sure that was NOT a National rally... I remember it was going to get canceled,,, some thought it was canceled,,, and then throw in the forcast of cats and dogs raining and,,, well,,, lets just say it was not crowded...

1996 I was in Morgantown... I know this because of a key ring I have from there,,, and I put in on my 1996 brand spanking new bike...

Durango 1997 maybe,,, was the next year I think???

Ring a bell with where you have been???

Hey Terry! I like your posts. I would go if the rally wasn't so far away and the weather wasn't so iffy. I kid, I jest! I understand!

I think the main problem with your initial post is that it looks like you are shouting at us! "Netiquette" and all of that.

Post up and post pictures. And for those members who go they should post up and post pictures too! Have a great time at the Moonshine!

Re: 2010 Moonshine Lunch Run is back!!!

Thanks for the post Joe!!! Very Cool to say and I thank you for it...

The size/color thingy??? I have had 0/ziltch/nadda/none/no complaints on Aventure riders and have been posting it over there for 3 years!!! I mean,,, they are not known as a group that will not bust ya if you deserve it... It is almost always near the top of the "Upcoming" threads too...

Why do I do it??? As you might see,,, I post like a kid on a Milk Dud Sugar Rush... Always have,,, always will... Long story on what the ,,,/.../???/!!! thing is all about but,,, I have my reasons,,, and I have been posting this way since the first post on the internet way back in 1991/92...

But,,, the Moonshine Run,,, is Wacky... Can not explain it,,, unless you witness it... A Wacky Ride,,, deserves looking Wacky... With this site having panties in a wad because of Color and size??? Far more things to worry about in my universe,,, but,,, this is your sand box,,, and I am a guest... Sorry if it screws up your cranium and will not do it here... My Philosophy???

So, the answer is "No, you haven't ever been to an i-bmw rally as previously answered "yes" to Pat's inquiry."

No problem with that....I was just surprised that you said you had attended some of the i-bmw rallies as I attend most of them every year (one year I made them all....have never made the California one, but, it is a recent addition).

These are OUR rallies and have nothing to do with the BMW MOA or RA.....remember, our site is i-bmw.com . We have annual rallies in Texas (April), Virginia (May), Vermont (June), California (Sept), North Carolina (Sept) and Arkansas (Oct). We also have an "unofficial" one in Kentucky. See our RALLIES forum for details!

July will be in Spearfish/Cody/Red Lodge/Glacier/Jackson Hole/Zion/North Rim/Mexican Hat/Moki Dugway/Moab/Colorado trip... 8th time to most of those in the last 12 years...

So,,, I will see if I am in the same region as 1 of your I-BMW rides is happening... But you know,,, the MLR flys against the "This is our group,,, this is our ride" thingy like most of my rides and it looks like your rides too... Moonshine Run is for anyone,,, any bike,,, any group,,, if we know you,,, if you never been... We put it in April to make it something you can't just roll out of bed for and get here... You earn it,,, coming/going/and/or/both... This is why the IBA/LD riders have taken this on and show up in such #'s... This is not your normal RTE...

As a wise man once said,,,

After riding over 1,000 miles through bad weather to get to Moonshine,,, it is comforting to know,,, an Out House is waiting for me...

Greenup Inn (217) 923-5512‎

Ok,,, This Motel just recieved the ACL Motel Travel Award and will make the list of Motels in the area to stay at...

This Motel is NOT,,, the one most are staying at... The one most who are staying in Greenup are staying at the Budget Host Inn - Greenup, IL - (217) 923-3176...

The Greenup Inn has changed hands (((VERY good thing))) been,,, FINALLY,,, renovated,,, (((EXCELLENT,,, idea))) and heard good things about it... So,,, I rode over on the Versys to check it out...

It is the cheapest place to stay in the area... I checked it out to see what the rooms all looked like... Renovated rooms are nice!!! H U G E,,, improvement!!! Non Renovated rooms are ok... I have stayed and slept in lots worse... Most rooms are renovated... Some are still to be done by spring...

Price quoted is $35 Single,,, $41 double... This price is for renovated and Non both... So,,, first to call,,, gets the nicer rooms... He has some completely non renovated that he might go as low as $20 on... They are worth that easy,,, but,,, sure not as nice as the $35 room...

It sets in a good spot... It is a Classic Motel... Park the bikes in front of the room door sort...

It does have very good reviews...

Re: 2010 Moonshine Lunch Run is back!!!

?????

? ! ? ! ? ! ? !

Ok,,, lets Review on just what has happened here to fill in the Blanks since the Borg moved in and took all most every post away on here...

# 1 ~~~ locus told me that I had been told prior to "Adher" to posting only in size # 2 and to conform... Never,,, E V A R,,, been told this,,, E V A R . . .

# 2 ~~~ I questioned him about it and tell him I never had been told and that from now on would comply...

# 3 ~~~ He contacts me again and tells to re-read that he wanted me too Adher to size # 2 and that he did not like the Moonshine Lunch Run... I told him again,,, I would adher to # 2 size,,, but had never been told this before... Being that he lives in Norway,,, and had never BEEN,,, to Moonshine Lunch Run,,, I can understand this about not liking the MLR to a degree??? But,,, not to the degree of removing the thread from this site which,,, well,,, read # 4 next campers...

# 4 ~~~ The Thread is removed...

# 5 ~~~ I recieved,,, I am guessing as of now,,, 44 e-mails,,, pm's,,, and post on other sites all but 5 apologizing for how I am treated on this thread... The 5 were from Administrators or posters trying to remidy this problem... All Administrators who contacted me to solve this were,,, perfect... I have 0/none/nadda/ziltch problem with them,,, and truly like each... (((Kneedragger/Muddy)))

# 6 ~~~ I decide to just let the chips fall and walk away... I did not start the MLR to make people mad no matter what country they are from... I want MLR to bring riders together,,, not divide... I wanted good Karma,,, not bad...

# 7 ~~~ Then,,, I get 5 more e-mails telling me this thread is back up,,, but has been sanitized... Almost every post but mine,,, removed... I am just asking,,, WHY,,, did you remove DEPARKER1817 post just a day or so ago showing he was coming to Moonshine??? If I am to "Adher" to size # 2,,, did Louis also get reminded in his post that was left on this thread in size # 7 ???

Ok,,, I guess I am back online here,,, Till the World Turns...

To try and bring Good Karma back,,, and make the past the past,,, I will offer each BMW rider who shows up???

I will wave the Registration fee!!! FREE SIGN UP!!!

:::::it has been,,, will be free since it was started,,, but,,, if ya never been,,, you don't know:::::

Maybe Some Folks Just have to complain about anything that doesnt fit in with their Idea of what should exist on the site, isnt posted by one of their Buddys and they have no personal interest in, shame they dont seem to want to be inclusive of others views and interests

Cool stickers, Terry. Save one for me. Be there in a year or two.
Don't forget your promise to write up a crazy report with photos included.
Oh, and if you have DDDrew in the mix, it most certainly has the potential to be crazy!

Terry
MLR is only a few days before we leave for Texas. We'll try to catch it another year.
