Re: new turn signals

Would be nice if you document the install process and made a "do it yourself" post with pictures
Oh, do you have a link to the webshop?

Z4 turn signals on K1200S

OK i just finished the install for the Z4 turnsignals..

A couple of things... The turn signlas were purchased from www.Mo-Parts.de Quality would be a 7 out of 10. In raw form the parts suppled look very simple but after it's installed on the bike the fit and finish is very good.

Is it worth $125.00 shipped??? yeah sure why not still cheaper than the OEM Z4 units and they fit great.

Tools required:
1. T20 torx drive
2. X-Acto knife
3. Hair drier
4. Double Sided tape (supplied in the kit)
5. Shoe Goo (silicone glue)
6. Drill with 5/16 drill bit and 3/32 drill bit
7. 4-40x 1/8 screws (optional i didn't like the supplied silver screws in the kit)
8. Pliers
9. flat head screw driver (small tip)
10. Long Nose pliers

Procedure:
1. Remove the Fariing side pannel (it's real simple just remove the silver screws)

2. locate the clip that retains the side gill on the K12S which houses the BMW logo. I usded a small flat head to bend the wings that dig into the plastic pin. You will be working on the gill part so keep the faring in a safe place.

3. Use a blow drier and heat the BMW badge for a good 3-5min depending on how good your wife or gf's blow drier really is. Gently wedge the exacto knife on the side and try to lift the BMW badge off the gill. work your way around untill it's compleatly removed.

5. only on the left side of the bike... You will need to drill a 3/32nd hole in the back to allow the power wires to go through the gill and through the hole that has been provided by BMW. (picture shows the right side gill which already has a hole from the factory)

on both sides of the bike
On this step you will also need to drill 2 5/16th holes so you can screw the LED turn signal disk to the side gill. I used 2 allen wrenches to help align as i drill the 2 holes for the screws.

The arrow points to the top, the holes are 2 different sizes... the smaller holes are used for screws while the larger holes are locating holes for the BMW Badge.

Drill 2 holes on the top and bottom. 5/16th drill bit size.

6. Clean all mounting surfaces with denatured Alcohol. Before screwing down the turn signal discs i decided to put 4 dabs of Shoe Goo which is a semi permanent silicone glue. Using the glue is optional but i wanted to make sure everything is nice and snug. After cleaning and applying some glue i screw the disc onto the gill. Screwing from the back of the gill into the disc. *the kit came with some cheap ass chrome screws... i opted to use a better quality aluminum button head screw for a stealth look.

(the four dabs are the shoe goo marks)

Blue button head screw that i opted to use vs the cheap phillips chrome screws that was supplied.

7. At this point i applied a dab of Shoe goo on the center of the BMW badge and pressed it onto the disk. Make your you make note of the BMW logo, it's easy to install them upside down.

8. simply attach the gill back onto the side faring, I added double sidded tape because the gill sat loose and it annoyed me. Adding the tape made sure everything was tight and secure. Feed the red/black wires through the gill and also through the faring. You can now install the supplied AMP plug. Make sure the wiers are fed through before assembling the AMP plug.

9. put the faring down for now as you will work on tapping power from the left and right turn signals.

10. Remove the side pannel cover (black plastic trim 2 T20 torx screws) on the side you will notice a plug consisting of a Blue and Brown Wire. this is where you are going to use the wire taps (supplied in the kit). Trim the wires from the AMP connector to the poper length.

Simply tap the Black wire with the brown and the Blue wire with the Red. Feel free to trim.

11. Plug everything together and test if it works. check all your connections Brwon to black, Blue to Red....

12. If it looks like the picture below button up the faring and do the other side.

AGAIN i don't like doing DIY instructions.. i just did this for some of you that are thinking of doing this mod. The instructions are fairly self explanitory it's all written in German.

I would give the isntall 2 out of 5 for being real simple, keep inmind I work on cars on a regular basis so for me it's very very simple. If you don't feel up to the task simply take it to some one that has basic mechanical skills.

It took me 1hr with taking all the pictures and taking the time to do things correctly, I would say proper install time is 30-45min.

Picture Whore time...

FYI... This will fit and work on ANY of the BMW motorcycles...

Re: new turn signals

I like that a lot! Interesting that the fins are hollow like that... I always thought BMW had intended to do Z4-style turn signals on the K1200S from the factory but didn't for whatever reason.

So get to work on doing a Z8-style turn signal! (i.e. the leading edge of the fin should light up)

Re: new turn signals

Does this operate purely as a directional indicator or as a running light as well?

You can set it up as a running light and a turn signal if you get creative with relays.

I plan on doing the running light option soon... i just need to find time to tinker with the bike.
