Instructions to remove R1100 final drive

These instructions were posted by chiba in another thread.
I'm sticking this as a new thread, making it easier to find in a search.

I don't understand the need to use Loctite on the left side swing arm pivet... BMW says not to and if torqued it is not going to move...

After successfully pulling my bike in half and installing a new clutch and a 6 speed transmission I would advise you do not Loctite anything within the swing arm...

Re: Instructions to remove R1100 final drive

For lining up the FD's spline ready to push it into the driveshaft, try Chris Harris's tip of stuffing a rag into the end of the shaft casing's end aperture to support the driveshaft in approximately the middle position. Like the hole in a Polo Mint.

When the spline starts to mate into the end of the driveshaft, obviously you smartly whip the rag out and away before pushing the greased FD spline fully home.
