K bike, still own one, or what do your ride now?

Times are changing, who still owns a K bike? If not what do you ride?

Don't own a K bike today. Still have my RR and voted accordingly.

Re: K bike, still own one, or what do your ride now?

After a 20 year time-frame away from bikes, re-entered the 'fold' on a GSX650f. Covered 36,000klms in 3 years. Then doubled the capacity with a 2012 K1300r. Covered 52,000klms in 3 years (blame Aussie IBMW Rallies 1, 2 & 3 for that!). More than half the kms on the K-bike were 2-up. Recently traded the k13r for a 2017 R1200r. (Would have loved to keep it / should have kept it, but don't have storage space now we downsized from a 4 bedroom house with double garage to a 2 bedroom apartment with 1 basement car space). Have recently covered 3,000klms in 3 months.

I still own and ride a K bike
I own (and ride) a K bike and an additional bmw or other bike

.... Add the words "and ride" to the second option so I can tick it.

136400 on the clock - I'll be riding it until it blows up.

Moved on to a GS. But, if the right deal comes along I'd gladly pick up a used K13S. Most likely to get a straight up sport bike though.

Still lovin my first year K1600GTL. My wife and I do some touring on it and I like it for long solo rides.
The S1000XR completely different bike. Use it for commuting and short rides.

Fortunate to still own two!

K RAPIDO, my 1999 K1200RS bought new, and...

HACK'd, our 1998 K1200RS w/EZS sidecar.

With both coming up on 20 years old, I keep expecting reliability problems, but so far so good, and I see zero reason to get rid of either.

That reminds me of the cruise control discussion at THCR a few moons ago. It will set at 100, but not at 130!

If I recall correctly it will set at 125, but not above that, I'll have to try it again next time the opportunity presents itself!

Re: K bike, still own one, or what do your ride now?

Guys: I think that we should run a comprehensive survey every year, with at least all the models listed in the sub-forums. We could open the survey on April 1, and close it on March 1. As the years go by, we'd be able to make a really cool graph, showing the rise and decline of various models over the years.

Anybody here riding a R1200C?

My brief fling with the GS ended right after this year's edition of the BRPR... I got back on a K13S two weeks later. Like Tim said - the only one...

Until I can get a Tuono to balance the garage...

Re: K bike, still own one, or what do your ride now?

not sure i get the point of the poll...are there any bikes worth riding other that K's?

I have three....no others.

well, technically K's were the motobricks. they ended with the K1200RS. all the "K" bikes after that were really the first "S" bikes....all had the Slant engines, not the real K brick engines.....so my "K1300S" is really an "S1300S"

@mlytle's got it figured out..

Just to be clear on this "K" bike thing..a "TRUE" BMW K has the Brick style engine..slant might claimed to be a k, yet ain't really...

Perhaps to avoid future confusion: BRICK MOTOR = K / slant= k (a bit less confusing than using S...)...

Rubbish! True K bike is either a K1200R or S or K1300R or S....at least in my book
(...and if you've never owned or ridden one you wouldn't know...)

A little tolerance is needed. I agree with SKYGZR. THE BRICK WAS THE FIRST 4 cylinder regardless of it’s layout and forged a great reputation. Can’t we agree that all k bikes are good and I own and ride one - transverse 4 that is

I agree, the interpretation just depends on what in-line "plane" you're on...

Still have my '07 K1200S. Had to replace my ABS module, but other than that love it. Not impressed with the XR.

as SKYGZR and I own both K's and k's, we would know....

BMW mucked up the naming conventions. just as they did with their cars in the last decade or so.

First letter in BMW model number for the most part is the engine type.

Boxer = R
Brick = K
Rotax = F
Transverse = S

except the misnamed K1200S/GT, K1300S/GT and K1600 things...which should be S's.

whatever they are called, both types of "K" bikes ROCK!!!

Have owned my K 8 years due to having plenty of other bikes still hasn’t turned 13,000 miles been wet twice has had 3 clutches 1 ABS unit 1 alternator but for some bizarre reason I still like it and it helps as the value decreases by the day so there’s no rush to sell

The K1200 is what got it started for me - nothing more capable of doing it all, nothing more you'd want through all those real world conditions - and here's to another 19 years of the Ultimate Sport-Touring Portal

My first K-Bike was an ‘85 K100RS
Then a ‘96 K1100RS SE
Then an ‘02 K1200RS
When they came out with the “K”1200S I went sissy, mostly
because I wanted to explore more roads.

"I still own and ride a K bike"

I think some folks might need help with their reading comprehension. Some of those votes don't make sense. Just saying!

Can you be more specific or are you going to maintain the standard merit-less conspiracy approach while attempting to derail yet another thread as you've got a boring life Joe!??

Re: K bike, still own one, or what do your ride now?

Finally gave up the battles with our '07 K1200GT's and bought two 2015 FJR1300's. Now we ride! Put almost 14,000 miles on each bike this year, most I've ever done in a year. If I'd kept my '99 K1200RS, I might be able to say I ride a K bike. Agree with Vics that the brick was the best K. However, the FJR is now my all time favorite bike.

My '07 K1200GT with only 60,000 miles is still around. I have never kept a vehicle for more than five years. You're welcome Mr. Banker. I know a rider who ran his '07 135,000 miles then traded. Very encouraging for me. I like it, like it, like it.

I'm only 17,500 miles into my 2015 K1300s MS. Just out of warranty now, after 3 years.

I bought my last bike new in 1985 and sold it in 2015, so I'll probably be owning this one until I can no longer ride.

Re: K bike, still own one, or what do your ride now?

At first I really wanted to keep the KRS I loved it dearly and it was still so pristine but after 6 months of just riding it once a month to keep the battery charged I realized that I didn't love it enough to keep it any more. The RT is so much a better ride, it handles so much better and I feel safer on it. And the electric windsheild can't live without it.
