Oops I wrecked my K1200Rs

Guy's :

I pulled a oops with my 2000 K1200Rs, I knocked it off the center stand while parking the lawn tractor!

I know dumb move on my part, But what I need to know is which years parts fit my 2000.

I need to replace the whole left turn signal assembly & the left foot peg mount. just wondering which other years will fit my 2000.

Going to check the Classifieds, Beamer Bone yard & Evil bay.

Thanks!

Pretty sure the parts you are asking about are the same on the 1998-2001 models...

eBay is your friend....

Max's parts fiche is where you should go.Dig up the part numbers for your model/year....Copy/paste them in the "parts finder search box" and all the applicable models/years fiches will appear.

Re: Oops I wrecked my K1200Rs

Be sure to check your valve cover. I did almost the exact same thing but with a trailer backing it into the garage. It hit the deck on the left side before I could even get the brake fully applied. Bag was on so the peg and bracket were okay.
Anyway, I noticed a little scuffing on the corner of the valve cover, no big deal. BUT, I started noticing a small drop of oil at the corner and it increased while riding and ended up splattering on my boot and tire. I pulled the valve cover and found a spiderweb of cracks at least 3" long radiating in all directions from the point of impact. Totally unseen from outside. Valve cover and gasket were around $175 new at the time....

Welcome to the forum.
Where are you located and what color do you need?
Shipping for the large side fairings will be expensive.
If your pieces are not broken it may be cheaper to repaint.

Re: Oops I wrecked my K1200Rs

Welcome to the site, when you get a moment, introduce yourself in this forum, http://www.i-bmw.com/forumdisplay.php?f=152.

As for used parts, ebay is useful, search "K1200RS fairing", you could try one of our site supporting vendors, www.beemerboneyard.com, and the "Classified" section of this site, look for the "Classifieds" "button on the tool bar. Also this link the www.ibmwr.org "Marketplace" https://ibmwr.org/index.php/ibmwr-ma...ce/browse-ads/ is helpful. You can also check www.re-psycle.com.

And consider that the fairing bracket, may be bent, and if it can't be straightened properly will need to be replaced, you can find them on ebay at times, this piece.

The fairing nose piece is different starting with model year 2002, and the fairing bracket might have a different part number than earlier years. The side panels are the same, but the wind screen is different from the earlier year models.

You can sort through the parts fiche at https://www.maxbmw.com/parts-motorcy...lership--parts

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I have a set of panels and the front cowl as well as the windshield. Don't have the vaguest what it's all worth.

Lee, Craig, any ideas?

Rebuilding a K1200RS as it is. Might just keep'em "just in case"

Beemerboneyard has plenty of tupperware parts that sold. These will give you and idea of price.
I'm guessing the large box for a side fairing will cost $100 to ship.

$200.00 each? If my buddy could sell a beatup red car fender screwed to a piece of plywood for that much in Montreal back in the 70s your panels should be worth that+ now as wall art?

Thanks for those links Lee.

Considering that the top price for the three piece set went for $750, I don't think that it's worth selling them.

Weren't they selling for a grand each at the dealer?

MAX-BMW parts fiche show that since April-2013, all fairing parts for K1200RS are no longer available as painted parts (any color , any year). However, they are still available "on primer" for the following price:

1a) large Left side fairing: $US 853 (1st gen) OR $US 829 (2nd gen)
1b) large Right side fairing: $US 829

Then EITHER this for 1st gen (1998-2001 USA market):
2a) Nose fairing: $US 429

Or THIS for 2nd gen (2002-2005 USA market):
2b) Nose fairing: $US 493
2c) Nose Inner panels Right and left: $US 127 Each

3) Belly pan Spoiler (avail as Black only - same for all gen): $US 500

SO... given these prices PLUS the cost of having the main fairing parts painted / matched, this makes any good used Side or Nose fairing quite valuable on the market, Even more so if one can find a good one to fix / match his used K1200RS.

You say too far gone, but I repaired many cracks with PlasticFix. It is $30 of glue, but works well on the inside. Might save you some work and cost. Got it on eBay.

I tipped my bike trying to turn it around in the grass. Broke off several screws tabs. The plastic is not ABS, but a harder plastic material.

And the Zebra panels cost more than the other colors.

When both of our bikes feel over in 2005 all the parts were replaced with prepainted panels.
The repair bill was over $9,000 and the price of parts really jumped since 2005.

Mine must be the same, the IBM must also cost more than a solid color.

I'll definitely keep'em.

Thx bud

Re: Oops I wrecked my K1200Rs

My Zebra panels have withstood the test of time and the odd falls rather well.

Mind you I strenghtened them years ago just in case. If they crack they may stay together, that stuff is very sticky

Re: Oops I wrecked my K1200Rs

Good to know about the XMatt sticky panels. I might be using those someday.

I'm in the economic red on this 2003 K1200GT 26k mi bike of mine. Starting at $4900 purchase, then adding new tires, 24mo general maintenance 24 of another $2000.

Then somebody on craiglist Chicago has a 29k mileage bike for $4300

https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/m...840952897.html

New parts will put you in the red badly. How about an insurance claim? How about getting another bike for parts?

That's what I'm doing.

Cannibalizing my old k1200rs with 200000 km on the clock and restoring the 02 with very little mileage.

Re: Oops I wrecked my K1200Rs

Doesn't look good for shipping.
Using the 68"x27"x8" box the new side panel came in the UPS charge is $210.
The Post Office will not ship a box that large.
There's no shipping company in our town.

Hey Louis......I should go nail some art to your wall? FrankenArt but an art none the less.

2019-03-16_10-49-59 by Pierre Begin - Flickr2BBcode

PBT+PC as to plastic composition.Same as all the K plastics.

This? Easy application....can be sanded and used as a filler.A few more strenght/application tests done and almost ready to replace my ugly Honda instrument lens.Very expensive Honda part btw.Old broken Touratech GS Lexan headlight guard for a quick fabrication test w/limited tooling and tomorrow on to the real thing.

Re: Oops I wrecked my K1200Rs

I hate it when that happens.

Short story: A few years ago (4yr) my landlord was operating a riding lawn mower and got tangled up with the cover on my '85 K100RT (on centerstand), and pulled it over hard. Home owners insurance covered it, and I was given a choice of $2000 to repair, or total it for $2400. Since I couldn't possibly sell the bike for what they were offering, I let them total it. Then used the money to buy my K1200RS.

That ended up a satisfactory transaction.

Good luck to you.

Re: Oops I wrecked my K1200Rs

Bmwgirl if you cannot procure your fairings from a member here or supporting vendor I would recommend eBay. Be patient and hopefully what you need will eventually become available at a reasonable price. I needed replacement side fairings for a 2006 K1200S and paid about $100 for each with shipping included. They were a bit rough looking but not damaged beyond usability as I was repainting anyway. Lots of wet sanding with 600-grit paper gave them a smooth enough surface and the finish after paint was great. Best of luck, I hope you are able to complete your project.

I am also in Virginia, if you need mechanical work we have an excellent independent shop in town > http://vamotorrad.com/

Re: Oops I wrecked my K1200Rs

I think the main side fairing panels are the same for all years of the K1200RS.
Is this correct?

Is this correct?

NO, the LEFT one is not exactly the same, but very close. The RIGHT one is the same.

BMW has different part number for LEFT large fairing of the 1st gen (crossover year being 2002 for USA market for 2nd gen).

I never actually took measurement myself, but apparently the difference is caused by a hole (attach point screw) for holding unto the front sub-frame. Of course, the front sub-frame design is more complex with more attaching points on 2nd gen K1200RS. All this was needed because of a more complex front nose design (more plastic parts).

Complete set of plastics there, cheap as they probably wouldn't need a repaint and would come with a lot of extra parts:
