I have had since new, Last week, the left foot peg cracked, it was held together by the rubber insert. I was in Blowing Rock, NC. The welding said it would fix it and he did. He called the metal Pot metal as the grain structure was coarse indicating that it was cast metal process to made it.

Anybody else with this issue>?

Tom

Re: 2000 KRS

Hey, Tom,

I was in Blowing Rock last week, too, with my brother's Brittish Bike club and all that rain on my '00 K1200RS. I'll be in Ferguson, NC, Thursday week for the Gathering of the Clans. Western NC has to be the BEST MC riding in the world.

I have a '99 R1100RT that came with a broken left foot peg held together by the rubber. It came that way from the PO and I promptly replaced it. I assumed it to be an aluminum alloy casting, not "pot metal" as your welder called it. I sincerely doubt he or anyone would or could weld "pot metal" because of a high zinc content and low melting temp. It would be a simple specific gravity or melt temp test to determine alu or zinc. Some people call anything not steel "pot metal" as a derogatory term. I'd bet he rides a Harley!!

Re: 2000 KRS

Tom,

Yes, I 'm have mine welded at this moment!

It's pressure cast which give it that grainy structure per my fabricator, Look like I have to do the valve cover also!

Just found a small crack from my oops

Re: 2000 KRS

The Parts system at BMW had a new peg. I got it and installed it in about 1 hour.
The peg that broke was made in 1996. The best view that I have on the cause is a review before welding. The grain structure from outside in was different. The actual break occurred at the point of the tight grain to the loose grain
In not a detailled person on this but the Engineer with me, advise his view.
Sometimes a BMW will offer a challenge,

My last ride with my favorite Motorcycle occurred on July 19th, I went on a Iron Butt ride and made 1077 miles on it. At the last gas stop, the bike went over and ended my Iron Butt ride, the insurance will totaled it. Its a 2000 with 130666.
My best motorcycle ever

Sorry to hear that, but, if you're inclined there are lots of well maintained versions out there to replace it.

Re: 2000 KRS

Thanks James, if I was 60 and not 70, I would consider your offer. My last BMW is a F650GS.
It has been lowered and should suit me for the remainder of my riding
Thanks again

Re: 2000 KRS

Update,

I was not happy with the insurance system or one guy at the dealer, I have withdrawn the insurance claim. Based upon a nail from Insurance co, They will deliver the bike to me,
I will have it fixed, and cleaned up and ride it around, then sell it

Sorry to hear that.
Did it just fall over?

Is it just cosmetic?
You can get used pannels all over the place.

You might just keep it...

Cheers
