Interesting but the onus needs to stay with the biker to filter safely. I filter but my rule of thumb is that I ride at the speed of the traffic plus somewhere in the region of 5 to 10 mph more.

Re: Ford to give brake to motorcyclists..

If this is indeed a Patent filed by Ford then what's that imply for other Car Mfgs? Do any other Auto Makers Safety Systems take Motorcycles into account? And if Ford has indeed patented this, will the other Mfgs pay licensing fees to Ford to incorporate this feature into their Safety Systems? Will it be Federally Mandated some day in the future?

I'd not be too surprised if most Auto Mfgs, except for BMW and Honda, maybe VW/Audi as well, don't take Motorcycles into account when designing their Safety Systems.

Motorcycles are not on their "Radar" as far as I can tell. I've been attending the SAE World Congress in Detroit Cobo Center for the last 5 years and Autonomous Autos is a constant drum beat but never a peep about Motorcycles in their presentations.

As a rule, I practice EXTRA caution around newer Cars/Trucks and especially nearby Tesla Cars. A Software Bug or a poorly executed FMEA could turn you into an Accident Statistic!

"....... it's not lane-splitting that's hazardous if you're a competent rider. The real danger comes from complacent "cagers" .....No shit?
