2007 K 1200GT clutch question

I used to ride 2006 K1200S and 2006 K1200GT and both had clunky transmission shifting into first and second gear and occasionally into third gear. Both had that well known rattle at neutral which would stop if you pull the clutch lever.

I now have 2007 K1200GT with 76K Km / 47K miles and it does not have the rattle noise at all but I do have some sort of grinding of the clutch as i take off from stopped position. The bike pulls well and the grinding only starts at the last bit of clutch handle release. If I would start at snail pace the grinding would not be there at all. If I start at moderate speed the grinding is there and stops the moment I release the clutch lever completely If I try and start a bit more aggressively the grinding is much more pronounced and noisy. I can also hear it in second gear when I pull/feather the clutch but less noisy and pronounced. I do not feather the clutch in third or higher gears so I do not hear that sound.

It does not look like the clutch is slipping, but that grinding noise does not sound good at all to me. In addition, it feels/sounds like the grinding is only partial as if only half or two thirds of a circle is grinding, as if something is imbalanced and only partial surface of the circle is grinding while one part is not.

Any suggestions/leads/recommendations are welcome.

Re: 2007 K 1200GT clutch question

If you do a search for "clutch" you will find hours discussing this and related issues. The K12 clutch has short comings that create the noise you hear. It boils down to poor oil flow to the plates. And some have a not quite good enough basket main bearing. If you want to spend the money you can install a K13 clutch but I would think it is not worth it until you need to rebuild yours. Do the search and the reading, it is interesting.
