What accessories for the SXR

So I brought one home.
Looking for thoughts and suggestions on farkles.
What would I need right away? Then what do I place on a waiting list/shopping list.
For now, I have ordered the GIVI Rad and Oil cooler guards, SW motech side stand foot enlargers, and the R&G frame sliders.
I am going with the MRA vario touring screen, maybe next month.
What else. I picked up this bike with 714 miles on the clock.

Oh! The bike already has an HP seat and a BMW Vario top box. Liked the seat. Almost 600 miles and had my ass did not complain even once. Impressive, BMW. Love taht the top box can be expanded to hold a shit load of stuff, and then down compact to hold just beer and scotch.

Re: What accessories for the SXR

Radar detector would be wise, maybe some auxiliary lighting and Rizoma makes some pretty slick accessories.

Engine guards, the right side especially. Even a small tipover could end in tears. R&G or GB Racing for plastic covers, or Woodcraft for some nice CNC'ed aluminum parts. Or get the tubing engine guards from SW Motech. But get something.

Re: What accessories for the SXR

SHAD makes a nice set of panniers for the XR but they might not look good with the vario top case, with that said SHAD makes a good looking top case too. I almost bought a XR, wanted to buy the XR but it was to tall for me and I don't feel comfortable riding any bike I can't comfortably flat foot. Have fun on your XR and let us know what farkles you add.

Re: What accessories for the SXR

I have the SHAD bags on my XR. Love 'em! I have the dark black ErMax sport touring windshield from MotoMachines. Good wind protection, minor turbulence, looks decent for a taller than stock shield (some of the taller touring screens look hideous!)

I installed the extended carbon fiber front fender from Hornig, all in the name of radiator protection (in addition to R&G radiator and oil cooler guards).

I have the Pirates' HID conversion in the main beam headlight, his LED bulb in the high beam.

Other farkles as well, complete exhaust, removed air box restrictor, high flow air filter, Booster Plug, HP footrests, Pirates' color matched rear wheel mud guard, other carbon fiber, Corbin seat, Hepco Becker Easy Rack.

XR is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Exhilarating ride and a pretty good touring tool!

None. Ride the bike and worry about accessories later. Unless there is a must-have item, I'd wait. You may find that you like the bike just the way it is!

I do, Joe. But there are items like frame sliders and red/oil protectors that take priority before shit happens. A small tip over can be costly. I know, my K12S has evidence of it. Washed the bike, took it off the stand and my foot slipped.
Like I said, for the first time in history, I liked the HP seat. >500 miles and no pain.

Re: What accessories for the SXR

Ride report unfortunately is pretty brief. I was able to snap couple of pics on my first stop beside the Atlantic.
Started out bright and sunny, riding right along the beach, but soon realized that I have miles and miles to go. Peeled off onto I-10 towards I-95 and then it started. Thunderstorms, lightening and huge downpours. All the way home. Thank God I took my Badlands.
Stopped only for Gas and pee, kept pushing because cagers in the rain and low visibility were such a pain. Many wrecks, causing ~15-30 minutes of crawling on I-175 in the downpour, more than once.
Anyway, the bike rode well with only a couple of issues.
The GPS was not getting ship's power to stay alive, although the control wheel functions were intact when the Nav was on its own power.
Time/clock would reset to zero if the ignition was turned off.
Spoke to the dealer here and he is going to look into both.
Got it registered here in my name and my plate from the k12.

I am not into leathers and whips like Jerry, the Pirate, would probably be. Poor Amber.
For now its the BL pro and Induction mesh if need be.
Dude I am Gortexed out, but I agree, its not what the cool guys wear. Say, like Ken. Just sayin...

Re: What accessories for the SXR

Well, for want of something better to do, I have been doing some bad things.... I confess.
So far,
LED headlamps - awesome.
Grip puppies - all my bikes get them.
Tech speck grip pads.
SW moto side stand foot enlarger.
Givi Rad and oil cooler guards.
R&G Aero frame sliders.
R&G water pump and stator sliders.
Heavy bar ends.
MRA vario touring windshield.

I think I am happy for now.
My electrified SW moto engage tank bag will go from K12S to this. Thanks Karl for the tip.
I will need a fuse/power distribution box soon, but have not decided.

The LED bulbs are from the link on Pirate's thread.
For 19$ a pair, its certainly worth a trial.
For now i have both hi and low LEDs and they look killer.

As you continue to put the XR through its paces, I think it would be a good idea to add the Hillbilly to your calendar for an October destination. Uh huh...

Tech spec tank grip pads
SW Motech- crash bars, axle sliders, tank bag, frame plugs, kickstand foot extender
Akro headers
XP Seat
grip puppies
heavier bar end weights
R&G mirror extenders and rad guard
second skin protective film
MRA windscreen
Taller gearing (42-44 tooth rear sprocket)
Wheel tape

That should do it

Re: What accessories for the SXR

My farkles are minimum for this bike but a few are definitely needed.

Crash bars
Radiator and oil cooler guards
Better clutch and brake levers
wind screen - MRA vario seems the overall best (I have the touring National screen which works well but not in Florida summer heat)
Givi tank bag with ring holder
Givi top case (47 ltr)

Not so sure of the need to change the exhaust or headers for this bike, how much more power does one need?

thanks,

Jim

Re: What accessories for the SXR

First thing you want is a Wunderlich sidestand foot. install it with 2-part epoxy in addition to the supplied screws.

Radiator and oil cooler guards. I went with the AltRider set. http://www.altrider.com/product/cate..._id/80/fmid/80.

OK, now it's time to get serious about light. I went with Clearwater Ericas and the Billie Jr. brake light.

She's not a K1300S, but a great little bike all the same.

See what I mean. Paughco's pics did not show either.
I already installed these:
Givi Rad and oil cooler guards
SW Motech side stand enlarger - reduced the lean angle a tad. Just right for me to be able to swing a leg over.
LED bulbs in both hi and low. Bright as a meteorite.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I had a chance to ride with Mani today and checked out his spectacular new bike. The thing is pristine and very very nice. Here are a few pictures.

Re: What accessories for the SXR

So I finally installed all the little parts missing from the "GPS prep" on the XR as opposed to the same on the GS bikes.
Now my XR has the locking GPS mount (with the bikes ignition key) just like the GSA.
Advantages: will not come off. Cannot be taken away in a second when you want to grab a drink at the gas station.
Have pics and details, but will let by buddy JJ post if needed by anyone.

Re: What accessories for the SXR

Updates...
Installed a set of Synto levers - helps a lot.
HP chain adjusters - cool factor aka bling! Dont know who would notice though.
Ordered the Cobra hypershot slip ons. Its on its way from Germany.

The bike just amazes me.
3700 miles in just over 45 days and am lookin at new tires. Michelin Road 5?

Re: What accessories for the SXR

Acro header and remove intake restriction and you will have a really great bike. It runs 20C cooler, revs from 1000 to 12000 and puts a great smile on my face. Not to mention the 20 HP increase it brings and losing 15 kg emission crap. It is then unleashed and a total different bike compared to what you have. I liked the first one I had but I loved the bike after these mods.

Re: What accessories for the SXR

I had BMW reset the ECU fueling trim tables so that the fueling system could re-learn the fuel required. The ECU has a short and long term trim table which it uses to calculate the fueling. It requires riding the bike for 200 miles or so to get the tables filled. The bike was running a bit lean and snatchy during this period, but after 200 miles was very smooth and running like a rocket.
