Re: New 1250 Boxer with "Shiftcam" technology

I've seen the reference to 136 hp but that's the first reference I've seen to 143 NM of torque (105 ft. lbs) That's a nice improvement over the R1200 mill.

What the hell is "Souvereign Acceleration"??

Rob Nye told me it is 60# heavier, is that correct?

Mechanically complex for singular adjustment. Maybe they should have licensed this technology?

At least then it would be across all conditions...

R1250RS, oh yeah. Even the guys on the RT version will be riding a sleeper. All that low end torque should be great.

At the risk of being flamed by the GS types, I gotta admit that the new motor looks/sounds (136hp and 105 ft/lb) fun.

Re: New 1250 Boxer with "Shiftcam" technology

Word from my dealer is that the new engine will be in both the GS and the RT, the RS can't be far behind.
"I just left Ferndale BMW and Steven was telling me he just returned from a BMW conference in San Francisco and the new boxer motor will be in the 2019 GS and the RT."

How complex is it to tinker?

Can one still work on it or is it technicians only?

Re: New 1250 Boxer with "Shiftcam" technology

Hey, it is just a servo that rotates a pin in a track on the end of the intake cam. The rest of the valve train is much like last years and other wet head bikes. I like the "silent chain" change out. Much less stretching which leads to cam timing problems.

some of the rumor mill articles I'd read back in July estimated the possibility of 145 hp on this. I'm just a tad bit disappointed. I held off on getting low mileage 2013 K1600GT because of that possible number. Though compared to my 2005 RT which was rated at 95hp, this will be a huge jump. I was also contemplating getting and Indian Roadmaster, but now I'm glad I waited, but now I will have to wait until 2020 because I never buy the first year of a model of any thing. Though it does give me time to save more for a larger down payment and finance less.

So from paring it down to close to 500 lbs on my 05, they've slowly managed to to get it up to 549 lbs.
I'm excited about the 1250 but the weight is becoming an issue...

Working on it yesterday, just simply removing the iabs () we could have taken the unit out for good but that brings another set of problems...

That woudda saved about 5 lbs...

Anyhow, I digress...

Back to our regular programming.

Re: New 1250 Boxer with "Shiftcam" technology

Yep, it almost weights the same as a K 1600GT. Pity the weight just keeps on climbing.

Compare that with a KTM 1290 SAS which makes 160 hp and weights 215 kg. I take my KTM and 1600 GT any day.
