BMW no longer makes some parts

I have a 2008 K1200GT and need a left side fairing, but BMW in all their wisdom now sells the K1300S as the replacement part and the original is no longer produced! This is per the BMW dealer WOW have not had any luck finding a used one yet. Is their hope?

Keep watching ebay. Also check on Max BMW website for the side fairing. Just in case your dealer made a mistake.

How bad is the damage? A good fiberglass repair shop may be able to restore it, probably at a fraction of the cost of a new piece (assuming of course that you can even find one.)

seems the factory painted parts numbers now direct to a primered panel
not perfect but a quality shop shoud be able to colour match just fine

Cannot fathom how they told you a k1300s panel was a listing or would fit? Will it fit?

Re: BMW no longer makes some parts

The 1300 part fits but has a vent on the side so it won't match perfect visually unless both sides are replaced.

Re: BMW no longer makes some parts

Just being sarky you can only see one side at a time.
Years back when I was a kid sailing small boats in San Diego a guy had a penguin (challenging boat to sail in strong winds) with a great paint job. One side was black and the other side white. Drove the race monitors crazy.
Perseverance and you will find a solution. After Ten years parts are optional for OEM suppliers. I think there are several obscure parts now that are not available for the K12 and 13 series bikes. If you love your bike start buying used but good stuff for major expensive parts. I have spare plastic, alternator, starter, front wheel carrier ball joints, fuel injectors and other small parts. I think I should score a fuel pump but treated well they last a long time.

Re: BMW no longer makes some parts

I've had fairing on my K13S and K16GT repaired and painted and both panels looked brand spanking new without even a hint they had been repaired. I saved a ton of money too, new panels were around 1100 bucks and the repair/paint only set me back around 400.

Mounting tab top back broke off completely so I am trying a different paint shop to see if they can repair. Broken tab also took out part of the faring.

Re: BMW no longer makes some parts

So far no luck finding left side. There are lots or right sides for sale. Do BMW bikes have a design flaw that only allows them to fall on the left side.

Re: BMW no longer makes some parts

I guess if all else falls I may end up with the only BMW K1300 GT that is really a K1200GT in disguise. There is not another ride out their that in my mind (small that it is) fits what I want.
Thanks for everyones advise. Still hopefull!

Motorcycles fall on the left more than the right because the sidestand is on the left.
Parking with the bike facing downhill and in neutral is one reason for a bike falling to the left.

Are you against buying the primer panel and having it painted?

The suggestions listed on this site as well as local places. Hopefully I will get good news tomorrow afternoon on the possibility of fixing the broken piece.

Re: BMW no longer makes some parts

Have good news found a person that has both sides for my K1200GT in good shape. Buying both just in case. Wrong color but that is not a problem.

Re: BMW no longer makes some parts

UK or Germany had no Clutch packs when mine failed ,had to wait until they had enough orders for a batch to be made.
Same with my down pipes ,I've had to buy secondhand .
