contemplating upgrade

Hey Fellers, I am currently in the saddle of an 07 1200 GT with 60,000 miles. I have no present issues with the bike except for the rattling clutch basket, which does not affect the quality of the ride and fun factor. I am soliciting opinions whether I should upgrade bikes from K1300 riders as I know most of you must have had a 1200 at some time or another. Pros/Cons?
Thanks a bunch!

Re: contemplating upgrade

Bruce:

Many factors to consider - are you going to sell/trade your 07? I don't think it will bring you a lot of money so keeping it( always good to have more than one bike) may be the way to go.

Are you thinking a K1300S - it is very different in regard to riding position than your GT.

The K1300's certainly had way less problems than the 1200's.

I had 2 K1300S's and had a K1200S before them - the bike is truly an awesome bike.

If you can test ride one for more than a few miles you will get a sense of the ride.

If you do find one that you like - check out the service history.

Do I think it is a good idea to replace or add another bike - I do - your bike is not old but it is 12 years old with 60,000 miles on it. Again 60,000 miles on a cared for engine is not a huge deal.

If you really want a K1300 now is the time to obtain one - as time goes on they will get harder to find and harder to find a nice one.

Good luck.

Re: contemplating upgrade

Bruce, I've owned both the K12GT and the K13GT and found both bikes to be excellent sports/touring rides. I did have numerous issues with each which eventually soured me on this model. I found the K1300S I had to be "more fun" if that is the best describing term. Is it as good a ride for two-up riding? I did not think so, but the acceleration and handling differences more than made up for that shortcoming at least for me. The K13S felt lighter, but still extremely stable at speed. If the K13S fits your riding requirements my feelings would be "Why Not?". Ten years from now wouldn't it be better to have owned and ridden a K13S than not? Hell, go for it. You asked!!

Ken

Re: contemplating upgrade

Ken, I like the way you think and combined with Bruce's points, I may need to become more seriously thinking about a K13.
Thanks for your input.

Actually, can't do too much wrong. The K13GT is a very good machine if the chequebook is right ;-). Have a lot of fun with the it. Especially if there is a trip for two every now and then, you will not want to give away the K anymore

Re: contemplating upgrade

Well guys, I made the leap to an 09 K1300 sooner than expected! I placed an offer on one on Ebay and was accepted later that day. $5800 for one with 55,000 on it. Please tell me I didn't screw up! Yes, I will be keeping my 07 model. I want my son to ride with me.

Re: contemplating upgrade

Great price! Congrats!

At that mileage, the shocks are shot, and you might want to check on the front ball joints. Threads here on both topics.
