07 KGT Front Fairing removal

Hello All, I've seen a lot of instruction about removing the side fairings (07 K1200GT) which seems pretty straightforward but can't find anything about removing the front fairing. I'm a new owner of an older bike and I'm going to have it painted. Deal is, I remove the plastics and bring them in - they do the prep and paint - I reinstall.

Just looking for any cautions or hints and how much disassembly am I looking at? Or is it simply find the screws and remove them? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 07 KGT Front Fairing removal

Thanks Jeff but was looking for something on the front fairing (headlight/blinkers/windscreen/etc.). Do you know if I have to remove the instrument panel, the windscreen, etc. to remove the outer (front) fairing? Or is the painted fairing just an outer 'shell' (I hope-I hope-I hope)?

Current color is the 'Deep Blue'. It has a few scratches from previous owner letting it drop (supported) and since it needs repair anyway, I want to recolor to the A53 Platinum Bronze. Body shop offered to do the job including side cases and upper case for $500. It was going to be $275 just to do the repair so why not get the color I wanted for a few more bucks...

Re: 07 KGT Front Fairing removal

For anyone else that may have been interested, I went ahead and dug in. The side panels are pretty straightforward and all the screws are visible with the exception of the forward most on the right fairing. That one is under a flap at the top/front but easy enough to spot.

The front fairing screws required a little searching. Those that are not obvious are two under the air intake, and two under the panel behind the wind screen. There are two black screws at the top of the windscreen panel that must be removed to get behind that panel. Once removed, simply lift the panel out of the way and you'll see the two fairing screws under the bottom of that panel. You will need to remove the windscreen itself but not the panel under it. You'll also need to remove the mirrors and blinkers but not the headlight or any instrument components.

I took others advice and mapped all screws into a sheet of cardboard (drawn to match each piece). Should be very helpful when putting it back together and Ihighly recommend doing the same.
